- RETRIEVING YOUR SHUTDOWN AND LOCKUP OPTIONS

- Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures

- If you have access to another system that DOES have shutdown
- and lockup:
-
- 1. Insert a formatted diskette into Drive A of a system that has
- the shutdown and lockup options.
-
- 2. Go to an OS/2 Window and from the root directory type:
-
- EAUTIL DESKTOP ATTRIB.MOD /S /P
-
- If you installed 2.1 over 2.0 or are using 2.0 type:
- EAUTIL OS!2_2.0_D ATTRIB.MOD /S /P
-
- 3. Copy ATTRIB.MOD from the root directory of the hard disk to
- diskette. Type:
-
- COPY ATTRIB.MOD A:
-
- 4. Remove the diskette from Drive A and take it to the system
- that is missing shutdown and lockup.
-
- 5. Start the system from the installation diskette.
-
- 6. When prompted, insert diskette 1 and press Enter.
-
- 7. At the Welcome Screen, press Esc to go to the A: prompt.
-
- 8. Remove diskette 1 and insert the diskette with the ATTRIB.MOD
- file.
-
- 9. From the root directory of your hard disk, type:
-
- EAUTIL DESKTOP A:ATTRIB.MOD /J /O /P
-
- If you installed 2.1 over 2.0 or are using 2.0, type:
- EAUTIL OS!2_2.0_D A:ATTRIB.MOD /J /O /P
-
- 10. Revove the diskette and restart the system. Shutdown and
- lockup is now on the desktop menu.

- If you DO NOT have access to another system that has the
- "Shutdown and "Lockup" options, use the following procedure.
- This takes you to a DEFAULT desktop. You lose your
- customization.
-
- 1. Start the system from the installation diskette.
-
- 2. When prompted, insert diskette 1 and press Enter.
-
- 3. At the Welcome Screen, press Esc to go to the A: prompt.
-
- 4. Remove diskette 1 and insert diskette 2, which contains the
- CHKDSK command.
-
- 5. Type the appropriate CHKDSK command, followed by the drive on
- which OS/2 resides and press Enter.
-
- X: denotes the drive where OS/2 resides.
-
- FAT file system, type: CHKDSK X: /F
- HPFS file system, type: CHKDSK X: /F:2
-
- If you installed from CD, the prompt stops at CD drive in
- the DISK_1 subdirectory, change to the DISK_2 subdirectory.
-
- If there are crosslinked files, copy the files that are
- crosslinked the hard disk to diskette. Delete the files on
- the hard disk and copy the files from the diskette to the
- hard disk.

- 6. Remove the diskette and press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the
- system.
-
- 7. At the prompt, go to the drive that has OS2. Change to your
- OS/2 subdirectory and type:
-
- DEL OS2.INI
- DEL OS2SYS.INI
-
- If you get "Access Denied" type:
-
- ATTRIB OS2*.INI -R
- You can now delete the files.
-
- 8. From your OS2 subdirectory, type:
-
- MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC and press Enter.
- MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC and press Enter.

- 9. Change back to your root directory.
- Delete entire DESKTOP directory structure, including DESKTOP
- directory itself, if you have more than one desktop
- directory, do the same for each one.

- If you are using OS/2 2.0 the DESKTOP directory name is
- OS!2_2.0_D. If your system is formatted HPFS you must include
- directory names with spaces in them in double quotes. You
- must remove all files in a directory before you can remove
- it. Also, you cannot be in the directory when you try to
- remove it.

- 10. From the root directory, type:
-
- ATTRIB WP?ROOT.?SF -H -R -S and press Enter.
- DEL WP?ROOT.?SF and press Enter.

- 7. Remove the diskette and restart the system.
