  5. SETTING UP THE ATI MACH64 CHIPSET TO RUN IN OS/2 2.X and OS/2 WARP

  15.         ATI WinBoost (DRAM Based Xpression)

  17. SUMMARY:
  18.  
  19. 1.  If the Mach64 card was not setup before installing OS/2
  20.     Warp, select primary display as VGA when installing
  21.     OS/2.  When you start the system into VGA, follow the
  22.     General Setup procedures.
  23.  
  24. 2.  If the Mach64 card replaces a previously installed card on a
  25.     system, take the system back to VGA (640x480x16 using the VGA
  26.     drivers (not 640x480x256 SVGA driver) before placing the
  27.     Mach64 card in the system.  Restart the system, and follow
  28.     the General Setup procedures
  29.  
  30. 3.  If the Mach64 card was setup before installing OS/2 Warp
  31.     for the system/monitor, you should not need to setup the
  32.     card.  If you do have problems, follow the General Setup
  33.     procedure.

  36. 4.  If you are replacing the monitor:
  37.      a. Select 640x480x256 resolution from System icon.
  38.      b. Shutdown the system.
  39.      c. Turn the system off and replace the monitor.
  40.      d. Restart the system.
  41.      e. Follow the General Setup procedure,
  42.         skipping the step to install video drivers. Instead
  43.         remake the SVGADATA.PMI file.  This is documented on pg.
  44.         240 of the Users Guide to OS/2 3.0.

  47. PROCEDURES:
  48.  
  49. Setup the ATI Mach64 graphics adaptor to run with SVGA Mach64
  50. drivers provide for OS/2 3.0 by:
  51.  
  52. For more specific information, see the ATI documentation and/or
  53. call ATI.
  54.  
  55.  
  56. 1.  Start a DOS fullscreen session.  A DOS bootable diskette
  57.     works if there are no memory management programs.
  58. 2.  Insert the ATI Installation Diskette in drive A:.
  59. 3.  Type:  A:Install and press Enter.
  60. 4.  Highlight Quick Setup on the main menu and press Enter.

  63. NOTE:  READ THE WARNING, and make sure not to set the monitor up
  64.        beyond its capability.  Check the monitor documentation
  65.        for more information.
  66.  
  67.        The ATI manual describes the Custom Setup in the Hardware
  68.        Installation / Quick Setup / Custom...  section.  If you
  69.        are not sure of what needs to be done, refer to the
  70.        documentation.

  72.        Note:  All resolutions, except "other...", are supported
  73.        with the Mach64 drivers that come with IBM OS/2 Warp.
  74.  
  75. 5.  Select the system's monitor or a compatible one.  If there is
  76.     not a compatible monitor, select CUSTOM.
  77.  
  78.         -  640x480 - (needs to be 60Hz or IBM Default)
  79.         -  800x600
  80.         - 1024x768
  81.         - 1280x1024
  82.  
  83. 6.  Select the refresh rate and press Enter.  See Monitor
  84.     specifications for vertical refresh rates.
  85. 7.  Press Esc, Select Y
  86. 8.  Press F10 to save the changes, the monitor flickers while
  87.     programming the EPROM.
  88. 9.  Press Esc until you exit the program.
  89. 10. Perform Shutdown and turn system off.  Restart the system.

  100.  1. Start the system after card has been configured.
  101.  2. Press the right mouse button to open up the System Setup
  102.     folder.
  103.  3. Select System Setup.
  104.  4. Select the Selective Install icon.
  105.  5. Select Primary Display.
  106.  6. Select the VGA option.
  107.  7. Select OK
  108.  8. Select OK, then select Install.
  109.  9. Follow the prompts for installation.
  110. 10. When installation is completed, perform shutdown and restart
  111.     the system.

  119. Setting up OS/2 Warp to run the ATI Mach64 drivers after OS/2
  120. Warp is installed.

  122.  1. Start the system after the card has been configured.
  123.  2. Press the right mouse button to open up the System Setup
  124.     folder.
  125.  3. Select System Setup.
  126.  4. Select the Selective Install icon.
  127.  5. Select Primary Display.
  128.  6. Select the ATI MACH64 option.
  129.  7. Select OK
  130.  8. Select OK, then select Install.
  131.  9. Follow the prompts for installation.
  132. 10. When installation is completed, perform shutdown and restart
  133.     the system.

  135. When system is restarts:
  136.  
  137. 11. Press the right mouse button on the desktop
  138. 12. Press the right mouse button to open up the System Setup
  139.     folder.
  140. 13. Select System Setup.  The first page of information is the
  141.     Resolution.
  142. 14. Scroll the resolutions until you reach the one you want.
  143. 15. Select the correct resolution with the left mouse button.
  144. 16. Perform shutdown and restart the system.

  146. NOTE:  The ATI drivers are supported on IBM OS/2 Warp or
  147.        later. Earlier versions of OS/2 only support the MACH64
  148.        chipset in VGA (using the IBM VGA drivers).
