  5.    SETTING UP ATI MACH 32 FOR OS/2 2.X AND WARP

  11. This document provides instructions for setting up graphics cards
  12. with the ATI MACH32 chipset to run with OS/2 2.X and OS/2 Warp.
  13.  
  14. Video Cards with the MACH32 Chipset
  15.  
  16.         ATI VGA Wonder GT
  17.         ATI Graphics Ultra Plus
  18.         ATI Graphics Ultra Pro
  19.         ATI Ultra Professional
  20.  
  21. 1.  Setup the Monitor Type:
  22.  
  23.     OS/2 2.X
  24.     ----------------------
  25.     a. Select monitor type as CUSTOM and set resolutions as
  26.        follows:
  27.  
  28.      -   640x480  - Setup 60 Hz or IBM Default
  29.      -   800x600  - Incompatible
  30.      -  1024x768  - Setup 60 Hz or IBM Default
  31.      -  1280x1024 - Incompatible
  32.  
  33.     b. Setup resolutions.
  34.        1. Select the resolution you want and press Enter.
  35.        2. Select the refresh rate and press Enter. See Monitor
  36.           specifications for vertical refresh rates.
  37.        3. Adjust the screen using install commands and press
  38.           Enter.
  39.           Note: If the screen is unreadable press Esc to
  40.           return to the "Adjust xxxxxx Mode" menu and select a
  41.           different refresh rate.

  43.     OS/2 Warp
  44.     ---------------------------
  45.      a. Select the system's monitor or a compatible one.
  46.         If there is not a compatible monitor, select
  47.         CUSTOM.
  48.       -  640x480 - (needs to be 60Hz or IBM Default)
  49.       -  800x600
  50.       - 1024x768
  51.       - 1280x1024
  52.       b. Select the refresh rate and press Enter. See Monitor
  53.          specifications for vertical refresh rates.
  54.       c. Adjust the screen using install commands and press
  55.          Enter.
  56.          Note: If the screen is unreadable press Esc to
  57.          return to the "Adjust xxxxxx Mode" menu and select a
  58.          different refresh rate.

  61. 2.  Setup the Memory Aperture.
  62.     a.  ISA bus systems
  63.         1.  Disable, if the system has more than 12MB of RAM
  64.         2.  Enable, set to 96MB, aperture should show as 100MB
  65.     b.  EISA bus systems
  66.         1.  Enable, set to 96MB, aperture should show as 100MB
  67.  
  68. 3.  Setup the VGA MEMORY
  69.  
  70.     a.  1MB of Video RAM on the video card
  71.             Set VGA MEMORY to SHARED
  72.     b.  2MB of Video RAM on the video card
  73.             Set VGA MEMORY to 512K or 1MB

  76. 4. Installing OS/2
  77.     a.  OS/2 2.X
  78.        - Install as 8514 system.
  79.        - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install as
  80.          8514 system.
  81.     b.  OS/2 Warp
  82.        - Install as ATI Mach32
  83.        - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install
  84.          as ATI Mach32.
  85.  
  86. NOTES:  On OS/2 2.x DO NOT run SVGA ON, it does not apply to
  87.         this adapter.  If the SVGADATA.PMI file exists delete it.
  88.  
  89.         Monitor must be capable of the higher refresh rates.
  90.         Check monitor specifications.

  94. PROCEDURES:
  95.  
  96. 1.  Setup the ATI MACH32 Card to emulate the 8514 video adapter.
  97.     a.  Start the system with a DOS diskette, without memory
  98.         management programs.
  99.     b.  Insert the ATI Installation Diskette in drive A:.
  100.     c.  Type:  A: and press Enter
  101.     d.  Type:  Install and press Enter
  102.     e.  Select Power up Configuration and press Enter.
  103.     f.  Select Monitor Type and press Enter

  105.        OS/2 2.X
  106.        -----------------------------------------------
  107.         1. Select Customer monitor type.
  108.  
  109. NOTE:  READ THE WARNING, and make sure not to set the monitor up
  110.        beyond its capability.  Check the monitor documentation
  111.        for more information.
  112.  
  113.        The ATI manual describes the Custom Setup in the Hardware
  114.        Installation / Quick Setup / Custom...  section.  If you
  115.        are not sure of what needs to be done, refer to the
  116.        documentation.

  118.        Note:  All resolutions, except "other...", are supported
  119.        with the Mach64 drivers that come with IBM OS/2 Warp.
  120.  
  121.         2. Select 640X480
  122.                 - IBM Default / 60 Hz (whichever is present)
  123.         3. Select 800x600
  124.                 -  Select "NON-SUPPORTED"
  125.         4. Select 1024x768
  126.                 -  Select Highest refresh rate the monitor
  127.                    can handle
  128.         Check the monitor specifications for refresh rates.
  129.  
  130.         If, there are no monitor specifications, a good
  131.         starting point is 72Hz.
  132.  
  133.             A. Select the refresh rate (72Hz)
  134.             B. Adjust the screen using the instructions on the
  135.                screen.
  136.  
  137.        Note:  If the screen is unreadable press Esc to return to
  138.        the "Adjust xxxxxx Mode" menu and select a different
  139.        refresh rate.
  140.        The possible refresh rates are 72Hz, 70Hz, 60Hz
  141.        NonInterlaced, 87.5Hz Interlaced.

  143.         5.  Select 1280x1024
  144.                   -  Select "NON-SUPPORTED"
  145.         6.  Press Esc,  Select Y.
  146.         7.  Press F10 to save the Changes.

  148.         OS/2 Warp
  149.         ----------------------------------------------

  151.         1. Select the system's monitor or a compatible one.

  198.     b.  Press F10, the monitor flickers while programming EPROM.
  199.     c.  Perform Shutdown and turn off system. Restart the system.

  202. 5.  Installing OS/2
  203.     a.  OS/2 2.X
  204.         - Install as 8514 system.
  205.         - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install
  206.           as 8514 system.
  207.     b.  OS/2 Warp
  208.         - Install as ATI Mach32
  209.         - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install
  210.           as ATI Mach32.
