- SETTING UP ATI MACH 32 FOR OS/2 2.X AND WARP

- This document provides instructions for setting up graphics cards
- with the ATI MACH32 chipset to run with OS/2 2.X and OS/2 Warp.
-
- Video Cards with the MACH32 Chipset
-
- ATI VGA Wonder GT
- ATI Graphics Ultra Plus
- ATI Graphics Ultra Pro
- ATI Ultra Professional
-
- 1. Setup the Monitor Type:
-
- OS/2 2.X
- ----------------------
- a. Select monitor type as CUSTOM and set resolutions as
- follows:
-
- - 640x480 - Setup 60 Hz or IBM Default
- - 800x600 - Incompatible
- - 1024x768 - Setup 60 Hz or IBM Default
- - 1280x1024 - Incompatible
-
- b. Setup resolutions.
- 1. Select the resolution you want and press Enter.
- 2. Select the refresh rate and press Enter. See Monitor
- specifications for vertical refresh rates.
- 3. Adjust the screen using install commands and press
- Enter.
- Note: If the screen is unreadable press Esc to
- return to the "Adjust xxxxxx Mode" menu and select a
- different refresh rate.

- OS/2 Warp
- ---------------------------
- a. Select the system's monitor or a compatible one.
- If there is not a compatible monitor, select
- CUSTOM.
- - 640x480 - (needs to be 60Hz or IBM Default)
- - 800x600
- - 1024x768
- - 1280x1024
- b. Select the refresh rate and press Enter. See Monitor
- specifications for vertical refresh rates.
- c. Adjust the screen using install commands and press
- Enter.
- Note: If the screen is unreadable press Esc to
- return to the "Adjust xxxxxx Mode" menu and select a
- different refresh rate.

- 2. Setup the Memory Aperture.
- a. ISA bus systems
- 1. Disable, if the system has more than 12MB of RAM
- 2. Enable, set to 96MB, aperture should show as 100MB
- b. EISA bus systems
- 1. Enable, set to 96MB, aperture should show as 100MB

- 3. Setup the VGA MEMORY

- a. 1MB of Video RAM on the video card
- Set VGA MEMORY to SHARED
- b. 2MB of Video RAM on the video card
- Set VGA MEMORY to 512K or 1MB

- 4. Installing OS/2
- a. OS/2 2.X
- - Install as 8514 system.
- - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install as
- 8514 system.
- b. OS/2 Warp
- - Install as ATI Mach32
- - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install
- as ATI Mach32.

- NOTES: On OS/2 2.x DO NOT run SVGA ON, it does not apply to
- this adapter. If the SVGADATA.PMI file exists delete it.
-
- Monitor must be capable of the higher refresh rates.
- Check monitor specifications.

- PROCEDURES:
-
- 1. Setup the ATI MACH32 Card to emulate the 8514 video adapter.
- a. Start the system with a DOS diskette, without memory
- management programs.
- b. Insert the ATI Installation Diskette in drive A:.
- c. Type: A: and press Enter
- d. Type: Install and press Enter
- e. Select Power up Configuration and press Enter.
- f. Select Monitor Type and press Enter

- OS/2 2.X
- -----------------------------------------------
- 1. Select Customer monitor type.

- NOTE: READ THE WARNING, and make sure not to set the monitor up
- beyond its capability. Check the monitor documentation
- for more information.

- The ATI manual describes the Custom Setup in the Hardware
- Installation / Quick Setup / Custom... section. If you
- are not sure of what needs to be done, refer to the
- documentation.

- Note: All resolutions, except "other...", are supported
- with the Mach64 drivers that come with IBM OS/2 Warp.
-
- 2. Select 640X480
- - IBM Default / 60 Hz (whichever is present)
- 3. Select 800x600
- - Select "NON-SUPPORTED"
- 4. Select 1024x768
- - Select Highest refresh rate the monitor
- can handle
- Check the monitor specifications for refresh rates.

- If, there are no monitor specifications, a good
- starting point is 72Hz.
-
- A. Select the refresh rate (72Hz)
- B. Adjust the screen using the instructions on the
- screen.
-
- Note: If the screen is unreadable press Esc to return to
- the "Adjust xxxxxx Mode" menu and select a different
- refresh rate.
- The possible refresh rates are 72Hz, 70Hz, 60Hz
- NonInterlaced, 87.5Hz Interlaced.

- 5. Select 1280x1024
- - Select "NON-SUPPORTED"
- 6. Press Esc, Select Y.
- 7. Press F10 to save the Changes.

- OS/2 Warp
- ----------------------------------------------

- 1. Select the system's monitor or a compatible one.
- If there is not a compatible monitor, select
- CUSTOM.

- NOTE: READ THE WARNING, and make sure not to set the monitor up

- a. Return to the Power Up Configuration menu
- b. Press F10, the monitor flickers while programming EPROM.
- c. Perform Shutdown and turn off system. Restart the system.

- a. OS/2 2.X
- - Install as 8514 system.
- - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install
- as 8514 system.
- b. OS/2 Warp
- - Install as ATI Mach32
- - or Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install
- as ATI Mach32.
