-
- Use the latest version of MMPM/2 . The disk images can be
- downloaded from the IBM PC BBS **
-
- OS/2 2.1 download these images:
-
- mmpm3_1.dsk ( 3.5 disks )
- mmpm3_2.dsk ( 3.5 disks )
-
- OS/2 For Windows download these images:
-
- 35mmpm1.dsk ( 3.5 disks )
- 35mmpm2.dsk ( 3.5 disks )
-
-
- PAS 16
-
- 1. Make sure you are using the latest TMV1SCSI.ADD
- from Media Vision.
- 2. Add the driver to the CONFIG.SYS as a BASEDEV statement.
- 3. Perform a selective install for the CD-ROM, usually
- it is a NEC 74 or 84.
- 4. Perform shutdown and restart the system. You should
- be able to play CD-AUDIO.
- If you cannot play CD-AUDIO, check to see if the selective
- install put a BASEDEV statement for NECCDS1.FLT. This
- file is necessary to play CD-AUDIO.
- 5. If the .FLT is not in the CONFIG.SYS, you need to unpack
- and copy the file to the OS/2 directory.
- a. The file is located in a packed file called CDROM.FLT.
- It is on different diskettes, depending the build level
- of OS/2 you are using.
-
- 2.1 GA 3.5 Blue = Diskette 10
- 2.1 GA 3.5 Salmon = Diskette 6
- 2.1 GA 5.25 = Diskette 19
- 2.1 GA CD-ROM = Diskette 10
- 2.1 OS/2 for Windows 3.5 = Diskette 9
-
- b. Use UNPACK.EXE to unpack CDROM.FLT and copy the filter
- file to the \OS2 directory.
- c. Edit the CONFIG.SYS and add the BASEDEV statement.
- d. Perform shutdown and restart the system.
-
- Sound Blaster
-
- 1. Make sure you are using the latest driver ( SBCD2.ADD )
- from Creative Labs.
- 2. Add the driver to the CONFIG.SYS as a BASEDEV statement.
-
- BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:xxx
-
- /P:xxx = I/O address of the sound card.
-
- 3. Perform a selective install for CD-ROM support and
- select OTHER.
- 4. Perform shutdown and restart the system. You should be
- able to play CD-AUDIO.
- 5. If you can not play CD-AUDIO, do the following:
- a. If you have an internal CD-ROM connected to
- the CD-ROM interface of the sound card, you
- need to install the DOS drivers for the card in a
- DOS fullscreen and then run the MIXER utility.
- You can boost the volume level of the CD-ROM. This
- remains until you restart the system.
-
- This is a hardware problem and Creative Lab is working on it.
-
- You can also try and download the latest
- MMPM/2 drivers from Creative Labs BBS.
-
- b. If you have an external CD-ROM and are running
- a line out from the CD-ROM into the Line IN of the
- sound card, you have two choices.
-
- 1. Download the latest soundblaster driver's for MMPM/2
- (SB_OS2.EXE ) from Creative Labs. This fixes the LINE IN
- set to zero and resets the FM chip for DOS applications
- that do not produce sound after installation.
- MMPM/2.
- 2. If you cannot get the new drivers as a workaround, open
- the Digital Audio applet in the MMPM/2 folder. This
- sets a nominal number for the Line IN volume, which
- allows pass-thru to line-out.
-

- SYSTEM SOUNDS
-
-
- A. Sounds repeat after starting the system or during
- play back of WAV file.
- 1. Always IRQ conflictions.
- a. Refer to the documentation to find the IRQ
- settings for devices installed in the machine.
- B. No system sound or hangs after installing MMPM/2.
- 1. Make sure IRQ's, DMA's and I/O address are not being
- shared by other devices.
-
- NOTE: Make sure address 330 is not being used by any other
- device. 330 is used by the sound card for the MIDI port.
- Usually ADAPTEC cards use the address.
-
- 2. Check jumpers on Sound card. Make sure they match
- what you selected for the sound card during the MINSTALL.
- Check the CONFIG.SYS.
- 3. Wrong card selected during the MINSTALL.
-
- C. SYS 1201 error on sound card driver after installing MMPM/2.
- 1. Make sure you have a sound card in the machine.
- 2. Make sure you are using a card supported under
- MMPM/2.
- - SOUND BLASTER ( 8 BIT, DPS 2.0 )
- - SOUND BLASTER PRO ISA or MCV (OPL2, OPL3)
- - SOUND BLASTER 16/ASP and new jumperless ( 16 BIT )
- - IBM M-AUDIO (16 BIT)
- - Pro Audio Spectrum 16/STUDIO (16 bit)
- 3. If you are using a Sound Blaster ( 8 Bit ), make sure
- the card is at DSP 2.0. It must be at that level to
- work under OS/2 2.1 and MMPM/2 1.1. The DSP chip is
- labeled CT 1351.
- 4. The wrong card was selected under the MINSTALL.
-
- D. WAV files sounds are truncated.
- 1. Check the device statement for the sound in
- CONFIG.SYS, for example:
-
- DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\SBP2D2.SYS 1 1 5 220 4 /N:SBAud1$
-
- 4 is the buffer value that can be change to 2,4,6,8
-
- NOTE: Make sure you are using the latest MMPM/2 drivers for your
- sound card. Contact the respective manufacturer for these
- drivers.
-

- MMPM/2 Applets
-
- A. Error " Desired action not supported or card may be defective "
- when starting the DIGITAL AUDIO program.
- 1. Usually a hardware conflict. Check IRQ,DMA,I/O address.
- 2. Another session or application may be using the Sound
- card. Device sharing is not allowed.
- B. Playing Software Motion Video (AVI) from CD-ROM. Video is slow
- or jerky.
- 1. If you are using a CD-ROM that is connected to the CD-
- Interface of a supported sound card:
- a. Make sure you are using the latest driver from
- the manufacturer (TMV1SCSI.ADD and SBCD2.ADD )
- b. Make sure you are running at highest resolution
- and at least 1 meg of memory on the video card.
- c. If the above criteria has been met, refer to the
- ServicePack for OS/2 2.1 or MR1. Software Motion
- Video playback has improved performance in the
- new release of MMPM/2.
-

- Other Problems
-
- A. After installing MMPM/2, you can no longer get their DOS
- apps to produce sound using a SOUND BLASTER.
- 1. Download the latest drivers from Creative Labs BBS
- (SB_OS2.EXE) .
- 2. If you cannot get new drivers, try the following:
- a. Install the DOS drivers for the card.
- b. Make sure the IRQ,DMA,I/O address match what was
- set during MINSTALL.
- c. From a DOS FULLSCREEN, go to the directory that was
- created for the DOS drivers.
- d. Run SBMIDI.
- e. Go to the PLAYMIDI directory and
- type the exe.:
-
- PLAYMIDI JAZZ.
-
- f. This plays a midi file and also initialize the
- sound card.
- g. Press Esc to stop the midi file from playing and
- run the executable for game.
- B. You have MMPM/2 installed and go to a DOS FULLSCREEN
- and play the game. When you exit, the system sounds begin
- to repeat or loop.
- 1. IRQ conflict - Make sure IRQ,DMA, I/O address match what
- is in the CONFIG.SYS for the MMPM/2 driver for the sound card.
-
- ** Files names on Creative Labs and Media Vision are subject to change.
- Contact the manufacturer for file updates and location. **
