  5. Installing support for Multimedia CD-ROM packages (Media Vision
  6. Pro Audio Spectrum, Creative Labs Sound Blaster)

  12. These multimedia packages are not supported by the IBM OS/2
  13. Technical Support Center.
  14.  
  15. The following procedures are not guaranteed to work, but have
  16. been successful in some situations.
  17.  
  18. For further assistance, contact the manufacturer of your
  19. device.
  20.  
  21. You must get the OS/2 Device Drivers from the respective
  22. manufacturers before proceeding with this setup. Windows and
  23. DOS drivers are not compatible with OS/2.  The drivers are
  24. available from:
  25.  
  26.        Creative Labs -- BBS (405) 742-6660
  27.        Files are located in the OS/2 Drivers section.
  28.  
  29.        SBCD_OS2.EXE - Panasonic CD-ROM drives.
  30.        SB_OS2.EXE - Latest MMPM/2 drivers.

  32. Both files are self-extracting and has a README file with
  33. installation instructions.

  35.        Media Vision -- BBS (510) 770-0527
  36.        Files are located in the OS/2 Drivers section.

  38.        OS2.EXE - Latest MMPM/2 drivers.

  40. The file contains the latest TMV1SCSI.ADD and MMPM/2 files that
  41. are used with the Pro Audio Spectrum cards.  The file is
  42. self-extracting and has a README file with installation
  43. instructions.

  45. NOTE: File names located on Media Vision and Creative Labs BBS
  46.       are subject to change.

  50.  - If you have installed OS/2 on your system and want to add
  51.    CD-ROM support with one of these packages, go to "Installing
  52.    CD-ROM after OS/2 2.1 is Installed".
  53.  
  54.  - If you want to install from the CD-ROM, use both of these
  55.    procedures.

  58. Installing from the CD-ROM

  62. 1. Use the DISKCOPY command to make a backup copy of OS/2
  63.    installation diskette 1.  This makes an exact duplicate of the
  64.    diskette.
  65.  
  66.    NOTE:  If you use the COPY command, you must copy every file
  67.    and change the volume label of the destintion diskette to
  68.    DISK 1
  69.  
  70. 2. Delete the following Adaptec and Future Domain SCSI drivers
  71.    from the backup copy you created:
  72.  
  73.        AHA152X.ADD
  74.        AHA164X.ADD
  75.        FD16-700.ADD
  76.        FD7000EX.ADD
  77.        AHA154X.ADD
  78.        AHA174X.ADD
  79.        FD8XX.ADD
  80.  
  81. 3. Copy the manufacturer-supplied driver onto your copy of
  82.    diskette 1.
  83.  
  84. 4. Edit the CONFIG.SYS to include the following statements:
  85.    NOTE: Lowercase represents the lines that currently exist;
  86.          CAPS respresent the lines you should add.
  87.  
  88.        ** For Sound Blaster use - SBCD2.ADD **
  89.        ** For Pro Audio Spectrum use - TMV1SCSI.ADD **
  90.  
  91.        set cdrominst=1 ifs=cdfs.ifs /q BASEDEV=
  92.        TMV1SCSI.ADD *** or substitute your driver filename ***
  93.        or
  94.        BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:xxx ( xxx is the Base I/O of the sound card)

  96. 5. REM any BASEDEV statements that refer to the filenames you
  97.    just deleted for the Adaptec and Future Domain device drivers.
  98.  
  99. 6. Install the support for the packages.
  100.    If the installation is successful, continue with the next
  101.    section.  If not, you need to create the installation
  102.    diskettes from the CD "disk images" and install from the
  103.    diskettes. This procedure is explained in OS/2 product
  104.    documentation.

  109. Installing CD-ROM Support After OS/2 2.1 is Installed.

  113. You need to change the CONFIG.SYS in the root directory of the
  114. OS/2 partition to access the CD-ROM after OS/2 2.1 is installed.

  116.   NOTE:  X: denotes the OS/2 partition
  117.  
  118. 1. Copy the following files to X:\OS2.
  119.  
  120.         OS2CDROM.DMD
  121.         CDFS.IFS.
  122.  
  123.    The files are located on the following diskettes, depending on
  124.    OS/2 package you have:
  125.  
  126.        CD-ROM Installation package ..........  Diskette 1
  127.        3.5 Diskettes, Blue Label ............  Diskette 10
  128.        3.5 Diskettes, Salmon Label ..........  Diskette 12
  129.        5.25 Diskettes, Blue Label ...........  Diskette 16
  130.        5.25 Diskettes, Salmon Label .......... Diskette 9

  133.    NOTE: If the files are "packed", unpack them using the
  134.          following commands:

  136.        UNPACK A:\CDROMREQ /N:OS2CDROM.DMD
  137.        UNPACK A:\CDROMREQ /N:CDFS.IFS

  139. 2. Copy the manufacturer-supplied device driver to the X:\OS2
  140.    directory.
  141.  
  142. 3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS.  Type:
  143.  
  144.       X:\E CONFIG.SYS
  145.  
  146. 4. Make the following changes in the file:
  147.    NOTE: Lowercase represents the lines that currently exist;

  163. 5. Save the file and exit the editor.

  165. 6. Perform shutdown and restart the system.
