  5. ERROR MESSAGES SYS2026,SYS2028,SYS3146 OS/2 2.X, WARP

  7. ERROR MESSAGES:  SYS2026  OS2LDR CANNOT BE FOUND
  8.                  SYS2028  OS2KRNL CANNOT BE FOUND
  9.                  SYS3146  OS2LDR.MSG CANNOT BE FOUND

  14. These are hidden system files and need to be in the root
  15. directory of the drive where OS/2 resides or is started.
  16.  
  17. The error messages may appear separately or with a SYS2027.
  18. Error message SYS2027 is to restart your system.
  19.  
  20. If you are installing, it is possible that one or more of the
  21. files may not have copied to hard disk.
  22.  
  23. It is recommended to copy the necessary files to the hard disk
  24. because they may be corrupted.  If OS/2 is installed and you
  25. receive the error messages, it is suggested to run CHKDSK before
  26. copying files to hard disk.

  31. INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CHKDSK ON OS/2 2.X, WARP:
  32.  
  33. 1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
  34.  
  35. 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  36.  
  37. 3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
  38.    Diskette 1.
  39.  
  40. 4. Press Enter.
  41.  
  42. 5. When the Welcome Screen appears,
  43.    - For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display a command prompt.
  44.    - For OS/2 2.X, press Esc, to display command prompt.
  45.  
  46. 6. Remove Diskette 1 and insert Diskette 2, which contains
  47.    the CHKDSK command.
  48.  
  49.    If you installed from CD, insert CD into the CD-ROM drive:
  50.    NOTE:  X  is your CD-ROM drive
  51.  
  52.    - For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display the command prompt.
  53.      Type: X: and press Enter.
  54.      Type: OS2IMAGE and press Enter.
  55.      Type: CD DISK_2 and press Enter.
  56.  
  57.    - For OS/2 2.X, the command prompts stops at CD drive in
  58.      DISK_1 subdirectory, change to DISK_2 subdir, type:
  59.  
  60.                X:\OS2SE21\DISK_2
  61.  
  62. 7. To correct errors on hard disk, type appropriate CHKDSK
  63.    command followed by the drive on  which OS/2 resides.
  64.  
  65.         (X:  denotes drive where OS/2 resides...C:, D:, etc.)
  66.  
  67.    For FAT, type:     CHKDSK X:  /F
  68.    For HPFS, type:    CHKDSK X:  /F:2
  69.  
  70. 8. Press Enter to start the CHKDSK command.
  71.  
  72.    NOTE: If you have any errors, run the CHKDSK command
  73.          repeatedly until ALL errors are cleared up.

  75. 9. Continue with the following steps to copy files to hard disk.

  82. ERROR MESSAGE SYS2026 OS2LDR CANNOT BE FOUND

  84. Error message occurs while installing.  It is not necessary to
  85. run CHKDSK.

  87.   NOTE:  X: is the drive where OS/2 resides.

  90. 1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:

  107.    and restart the system.

  109.    NOTE: If you get error message SYS2028 or SYS3146, DO NOT
  110.          restart the system.  Type the following to copy the
  111.          files:

  113.                COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\     and press Enter
  114.                COPY OS2KRNL X:\        and press Enter
  115.  
  116.          Remove the diskette and restart the system.
  117.

  120. ERROR MESSAGE SYS2028 OS2KRNL CANNOT BE FOUND
  121.  
  122. Error message occurs while installing.  It is not necessary to
  123. run CHKDSK.
  124.  
  125. 1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
  126.  
  127. 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  128.  
  129. 3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
  130.    Diskette 1.
  131.  
  132. 4. Press Enter.
  133.  
  134. 5. When the Welcome Screen appears,
  135.    - For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display a command prompt.
  136.    - For OS/2 2.X, press Esc, to display command prompt.

  138. 6. At the A:>  Type,
  139.                COPY OS2KRNL   and press Enter
  140.  
  141. 7. If you do not receive an error message, remove the diskette and
  142.    restart the system.

  144.    NOTE: If you get error message SYS2026 or SYS3146, DO NOT
  145.          restart the system.  Type the following  to copy the
  146.          files:
  147.                COPY OS2LDR X:\   and press Enter
  148.                COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\    and press Enter
  149.          Remove diskette and restart the system.

  153. ERROR MESSAGE SYS3146 CANNOT BE FOUND
  154.  
  155. Error message occurs while installing.  It is not necessary to
  156. run CHKDSK.
  157.  
  158. 1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:

  160. 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  161.  
  162. 3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
  163.    Diskette 1.
  164.  
  165. 4. Press Enter.
  166.  
  167. 5. When the Welcome Screen appears,
  168.    - For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display a command prompt.
  169.    - For OS/2 2.X, press Esc, to display command prompt.

  174. 7. If you do not receive an error message, remove the diskette
  175.    and restart the system.

  177.    NOTE: If you get error message SYS2026 or SYS2028, DO NOT
  178.          restart the system.  Type the following to copy the
  179.          files:
  180.                COPY OS2LDR X:\     and press Enter
  181.                COPY OS2KRNL X:\    and press Enter
  182.          Remove the diskette and restart the system.

  186. FOR ERROR MESSAGES IF OS/2 IS ALREADY INSTALLED
  187.  
  188. OS/2 is already installed and you receive one or more of the
  189. following error messages:
  190.             SYS2026
  191.             SYS2028
  192.             SYS3146
  193. Any of these error messages can be followed by SYS2027, which
  194. means to restart your system.

  196. 1. Do the CHKDSK procedure first.
  197.  
  198. 2. Follow steps above for error message you receive.
  199.  
  200.    For example:  If you receive SYS2026
  201.                  A. Run CHKDSK.
  202.                  B. Follow instructions for SYS2026 error message
  203.
