  11.      SELECTIVE (RE-) INSTALL OF WIN-OS/2 SUPPORT FOR OS/2 2.1,
  12.             NOT TO BE APPLIED TO OS/2 FOR WINDOWS
  13.

  16. SYMPTOMS:
  17.  
  18.   Cannot start WIN-OS/2 Full Screen or Program Manager from
  19.   desktop, or launch Windows applications seamlessly because:
  20.  
  21.   1. Migration of Windows desktop and/or migration of Windows
  22.      applications was performed during install of OS/2 2.1
  23.      when Advanced Options window was presented.
  24.  
  25.   2. Upgrade from OS/2 2.0 to 2.1 was not successful which
  26.      can be determined partly by going into WIN-OS/2 full
  27.      screen settings and checking the PATH and FILENAME statement
  28.      for WINOS2.COM.  Or, applications launched, but not all
  29.      functions are available after several remigrations or even
  30.      reinstallations.  This procedure applies when WIN-OS/2
  31.      doesn't behave normally, where Windows (or applications)
  32.      within Program Manager may hang and/or switching between
  33.      Program Manager and the OS/2 desktop is problematic.

  37. RESOLUTION:
  38.  
  39.   1. Obtain OS/2 2.1 and any Windows applications diskettes.
  40.      Selective Install CANNOT be started without these diskettes.
  41.  
  42.   2. Close any Windows applications and WIN-OS/2 full screen.
  43.      Check the Window List for anything that may be minimized.
  44.  
  45.   3. Start from OS/2 desktop.
  46.  
  47.   4. Selective Install involves:
  48.      - Deleting all files from WINOS2\SYSTEM and WINOS2
  49.        directories
  50.      - Following Selective Install in System Setup and
  51.        inserting diskettes when prompted
  52.      - Reinstalling fonts in WIN-OS/2 full screen if any
  53.        were added
  54.      - Reinstalling Windows applications from WIN-OS/2 full
  55.        screen using File/Run, or from a command line
  56.      - Remigrating applications to desktop in order to run them
  57.        in seamless mode

  60. PROCEDURES:
  61.  
  62.   You MUST have all the OS/2 2.1 and appropriate Windows
  63.   applications diskettes to proceed with Selective Install.
  64.  
  65.   To delete directories:
  66.  
  67.   1. Open OS/2 System, then Command Prompts.
  68.  
  69.   2. Double-click on OS/2 Window.
  70.  
  71.   3. At the command prompt type:
  72.             CD\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2        and press Enter
  73.  
  74.   4. Type:
  75.             DEL *.*                   and press Enter
  76.  
  77.   5. When asked are you sure?, press Y, and press Enter
  78.  
  79.   6. Type:
  80.             Exit                      and press Enter
  81.  
  82.      See pages 76-77 in OS/2 2.1 Using the Operating System
  83.      for instructions on Selective Install.  It is possible to
  84.      bring up System Setup - Icon View for the Selective Install
  85.      icon by selecting that option in the Desktop/Shutdown menu
  86.      from the OS/2 desktop.

  88.   7. Select Selective Install.
  89.  
  90.   8. Select OK on System Configuration window.
  91.  
  92.   9. Select WIN-OS/2 Support by placing a mark in the box to
  93.      the left of this option.
  94.  
  95.  10. Select Install. The source drive is indicated (A:\ for
  96.      diskette, or other for CD-ROM).
  97.  
  98.  11. Insert diskettes as prompted.
  99.  
  100.  12. At the Advanced Options screen, select Configure Desktop.
  101.  
  102.  13. Select Standard WIN-OS/2 Default Desktop.
  103.  
  104.  14. Remove diskette and restart the system when installation is
  105.      completed.
  106.  
  107.  15. From the OS/2 desktop, open WIN-OS/2 Full Screen.  From
  108.      WIN-OS/2 Program Manager:
  109.  
  110.  16. Reinstall Windows applications to the same directories where
  111.      they were previously installed, using File/Run.  Following
  112.      instructions from Application software manuals and OS/2
  113.      2.1 documentation.

  115.  17. Reinstall printer(s):
  116.      A. Select Control Panel.
  117.      B. Select Printers.
  118.      C. Highlight the correct printer or appropriate emulation,
  119.         and select Install.
  120.      D. If prompted, install Printer Driver from diskette or
  121.         select Browse to install from hard disk.
  122.      E. Select OK.
  123.      F. Close.
  124.  
  125.  18. Select ATM Control Panel, if ATM fonts need to be installed.
  126.      A. Select Add.
  127.      B. Select PSFONTS on the right side of the window where the
  128.         directories are listed.
  129.      C. Select PFM when the directory changes.
  130.      D. Select fonts to be installed from the list.
  131.         1. For all fonts:
  132.              - Highlight first font.
  133.              - Scroll down to the bottom of the list.
  134.              - Hold the Shift key and select last name on list.
  135.         2. For a few fonts:
  136.              - Highlight the first font.
  137.              - Hold Ctrl key while selecting additional fonts.
  138.         3. Select Add.
  139.      E. After Fonts are installed, the initial ATM Control Panel
  140.         screen appears.
  141.      F. Ensure ATM is checked On.
  142.      G. Click on Exit.
  143.  
  144.  19. Run applications from WIN-OS/2 full screen to verify they
  145.      run correctly.
  146.
