  22. Purpose:  To display the names and attributes of files  contained
  23.   within archive files with extensions of ARC, ZIP, PAK,
  24.   DWC, LZH, ZOO, LBR and most self-extracting .COM and .EXE
  25.   files created by ARC, ZIP, PAK, LZH.

  29. SHARC is a shell program to make viewing and working with  ARC files
  30. user friendly.  It is written in TURBOC with some screen I/O  routines
  31. written in ASM.  In order for SHARC to function you must  have Phil
  32. Katz's PKARC and PKXARC (or PKPAK/PKUNPAK) programs, and  Vern Buerg's
  33. LIST program. The latter is on this same disk, the former  -among others-
  34. on volume 2948.

  46. All of these are outstanding systems and each have their own  specific
  47. merits.  New-Ware has no vested interest in the commercial  success of
  48. any of these systems and does not recommend one over the  other.  It is
  49. recommended that archive file users evaluate each of these  systems,
  50. select the one(s) closest to meeting archival needs, and  registering
  51. that product(s).  All, except ARCA and LHARC, are Shareware  products and
  52. available from various sources, including Bulletin Board  Systems around
  53. the country.  LHARC (.LZH files) is a freely distributed  program.
  54. ArcMaster 4.35 supports all of these systems in an effort to  provide an
  55. effective archive system visual user interface for the  broadest range of
  56. users.

  58.      It is the responsibility of the user to thoroughly read
  59. and
  60. understand the documentation included with whichever archive  systems are
  61. in use.  For example, the ZIP system provides a means for  specifying a
  62. drive as the default for creating temporary files.  This  feature is
  63. important when archiving/unarchiving from/to floppy disks.

  65.     ArcMaster is a full-featured visual interface program  designed
  66. facilitate the operation of archive systems in the  PCDOS/MSDOS
  67. environment.  By itself, ArcMaster WILL NOT perform any file  compression
  68. or decompression.  At least one of the support systems must  be present
  69. before ArcMaster becomes useful.  With one or more of the  five supported
  70. archive systems present, ArcMaster will make the creation,  modification,
  71. and unarchiving of archive files much easier and faster.  It  is menu-
  72. driven and employs a "point and shoot" style method of  controlling major
  73. archiving operations.

  76. IDCshell is the grandchild of B29.COM (first released Sept. 
  77. 1985), a CP/M utility that was very similar to IDCshell and 
  78. handled LBR files. Many of the features of IDCshell were 
  79. taken from the original DOS version of B29, which I never 
  80. released. The directory tree routine is a complete rewrite  of 
  81. IDCTREE.COM, which was released in late '86.

  84. In conjunction with ARC it is a fullscreen un-Archiving system,
  85. also acting as a DOS shell. This version is an update of  volume
  86. 2937.
