  46.     DIMS (Dan's Information Management System) is a set of programs that chain
  47. together automatically to create a versatile  list-managing system.  It has
  48. been proven under pressure to be  suitable for serious medium-scale (hundreds
  49. to thousands of  names) mailing-list operations, inventories, indexes,
  50. ledgers,  etc.  It must be installed by a Basic-86 programmer (experienced 
  51. with ANSI.SYS or the like) and can be used successfully by almost  anybody.

  53.     File records can be either 128 bytes long with up to 15  fields or 256
  54. bytes long with up to 30 fields.  Within each  record the fields are of random
  55. length.  
  56.    When updating records the old data is shown field by field and  may be kept
  57. or replaced.  All data files are automatically kept  in duplicate on two
  58. different disks.  When a record is updated it  is automatically updated on
  59. both disks.  It is difficult to lose  a DIMS file.  The files can be scanned
  60. with the DOS "type" command.
