  12.    --------------------
  13.    This self-extracting file contains the version 2.0E release of the
  14.    OS/2 communications engine for Golden CommPass for OS/2.
  15.  
  16.    Reporting Problems:
  17.    -------------------
  18.    Any Golden CommPass problems with this version should be reported on the
  19.    OS2USER forum in section 4 - OS/2 Applications.
  20.  
  21.    For a TRAP D problem report, we will need the CS and IP register values.
  22.    In addition, we will also need the CSLIM value.
  23.  
  24.    For a "hung script" problem report, I will need a copy of the ONLINE.LOG
  25.    file that illustrates where the error occured.  For this reason, I suggest
  26.    that you enable the Options / Online log from the main Golden CommPass
  27.    window.

  32.    Installing Golden CommPass:
  33.    ---------------------------
  34.    There are 2 DLLs required to enable the Golden CommPass communications
  35.    engine for accessing CompuServe.  They are:
  36.  
  37.             COMMPCOM.DLL
  38.             COMMPCIS.DLL
  39.  
  40.    Both of these files _MUST_ be placed in a directory pointed to by the
  41.    LIBPATH statement in your CONFIG.SYS file.
  42.  
  43.    Also included in this package is the COMMPCOM.HLP file.  This file must
  44.    be installed in the same directory as COMMPASS.EXE, or in a directory
  45.    pointed to by the HELP environment variable in CONFIG.SYS.
  46.  
  47.    Several logon script files are also included in this package.  If you are
  48.    signing onto CompuServe from another network, it may be necessary to use
  49.    these logon script files.

  51.    In addition to these two files, you must also have Version 2.OE of the
  52.    Golden CommPass message reader installed.
  53.  
  54.    Golden CommPass Scripts:
  55.    ------------------------
  56.    This version of Golden CommPass includes several CompuServe logon scripts.
  57.    If you are currently using a TAPCIS supplied logon script, please test these
  58.    new logon scripts.

  60.    Golden CommPass Performance:
  61.    ----------------------------
  62.    Golden CommPass 2.0 has several major performance improvements that should
  63.    address many of the concerns that were raised with earlier versions.  In
  64.    addition to these peformance improvements, we have made it easier to select
  65.    a different telephone number for an online run.  Some tasks will simply be
  66.    more economical when handled at 2400 bps instead of 9600 bps.

  68.    During our testing of the READ NEW message pass, we have been seeing data
  69.    transfer rates oover 900 cps.  It should not make a difference if the
  70.    comm window is visible since it is now being handled in a separate thread.
  71.    However, keeping that window updated places a SIGNIFICANT demand on the CPU
  72.    and for that reason, we recommend that you MINIMIZE the communications
  73.    window.  In fact, if you do not minimize the communications window, it is
  74.    very likely that the communications session will complete, and the modem
  75.    will disconnect several minutes before the window stops scrolling (at 9600
  76.    bps).

  78.    During our testing of the READ THREAD message pass, we have been seeing
  79.    data transfer rates of 550-650 cps.  This is largely dependent on the size
  80.    of the message threads being downloaded.
