  8. INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE TASK FORCE ANNOUNCES 
  9. COMPUTER BULLETIN BOARD

  11. Larry Irving, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and
  12. Information announced today the Information Infrastructure Task Force
  13. (IITF) Secretariat has begun operating a computer bulletin board
  14. system to provide public access to IITF and other National
  15. Information Infrastructure (NII) related documents, including IITF
  16. schedules, committee reports and minutes of meetings.  
  17.  
  18. "Our goal is to make government information available and easily
  19. accessible to the public," stated Larry Irving.  "As we move towards
  20. our goal of rapidly expanding our national information
  21. infrastructure, we want to ensure that the public is kept aware of
  22. our activities."

  24. The Information Infrastructure Task Force (IITF) Bulletin Board may
  25. be reached through Internet or by calling 202/501-1920 using a
  26. personal computer and a telephone modem.  The bulletin board is
  27. available to the public 24 hours each day, seven days a week.

  29. For access through Internet, point your Gopher client to iitf.doc.gov
  30. or telnet to iitf.doc.gov and login as gopher.  Comments may be sent
  31. by e-mail to nii@ntia.doc.gov.

  33. For telephone access, dial 202/501-1920.  Modem communication
  34. parameters should be set at no parity, 8 data bits and 1 stop
  35. (N,8,1).  The bulletin board modem operates at speeds up to 14,400
  36. baud.  If the above number is busy, the same information may be
  37. accessed by dialing 202/482-1199 and choosing the IITF item on the
  38. menu.

  40. When dialing in for the first time, you will be prompted for your
  41. name, location and terminal type.  It is recommended that you select
  42. VT-100 as your terminal type.

  44. After you have logged-in, you can choose to read or download
  45. information stored under the subject areas listed below.
