  6. Minutes of the SNA NAU Services MIB Working Group (SNANAU)
  7.  
  8. The SNANAU Working Group met on July 14 to review the proposed SNA NAU
  9. MIB draft distributed to the mailing list on June 30.

  13. Changes To MIB Draft
  14.  
  15. There was a lack of feedback on the MIB draft via the mailing list.
  16. This, as well as the need to get feedback, was discussed.
  17.  
  18. 1) Removal of the snaGate group.
  19.  
  20. Defining objects for management of an SNA Gateway is outside the initial 
  21. scope of the working group's charter. The snaGate group will be removed 
  22. from the current mib draft. The working group will be polled to determine 
  23. the interest in and need for a snaGate mib module.

  25. 2) Downstream PU group.
  26.  
  27. It was recommended that the downstream PU objects be removed from the 
  28. current draft since these objects are more applicable to an SNA Gateway. 
  29. These objects are candidates for inclusion in an snaGate module.
  30.  
  31. 3) Response Time Monitoring objects.
  32.  
  33. These objects represent the statistics used to monitor terminal session 
  34. response time characteristics.  The RTM objects will be moved from the snaLU
  35. group and moved to a new group, snaMgtTools.  The intent of the snaMgtTools 
  36. group is to provide objects to support currently used LU/PU management 
  37. applications/tools.

  39. Working group input is needed to identify additional functions should be 
  40. supported in this new group.

  42. 4) snaLUState Table
  43.  
  44. The snaLuStateUser*  and 
  45. snaPuStateUser* objects (UserName, UserState, and UserMacAddress) will be 
  46. deleted. These objects are candidates for a snaGateway mib module.
  47.  
  48. 5) snaLuStateLastDataExchange and 
  49. snalPuStateLastDataExchange objects
  50.  
  51. These objects will be removed since the information is available in the 
  52. snaLuStats and snaPuStats tables.
  53.  
  54. 6) Timeticks/sysUpTime
  55.  
  56. The wording for objects reflecting counts measured from agent startup time 
  57. will be changed/clarified to indicate the use of sysUpTime.
  58.  
  59. 7) OID Branch
  60.  
  61. There was discussion on the need for an experimental branch number assignment 
  62. for the snanaumib.  (Dave Perkins will follow-up.)
  63.  
  64. 8) Row Creation
  65.  
  66. The current draft of the mib supports the capability to create PU and LU 
  67. instances via SNMP Set-Requests. There is a concern that the capability to 
  68. dynamically create PU/LUs is not generally supported.
  69.  
  70. Two alternatives were discussed:
  71.  
  72. a) remove the Row-Status objects, supporting a read-only capability,
  73. b) specifying the Read/Write access as an optional, not mandatory capability. 
  74.    Exactly how we can specify alternative "b" needs to be investigated.

  79. The objects which refer to underlying link protocols
  80. are subject to change pending on the structures of the
  81. DLC MIB.

  84. Interim Meeting
  85.  
  86. An interim meeting may be scheduled to coincide with the APPN
  87. Implementor's Workshop (AIW) in September.  The purpose of the interim
  88. meeting will be to review the planned Internet-Draft and to increase
  89. exposure of the MIB to encourage more feedback from the SNA community.

  97.      in having an interim meeting.

  100.      listed in these minutes.

  105.    o Questions on mandatory/optional for the write capability and the
  106.      experimental branch assignment will be investigated, and results
  107.      reported back to the working group.

  109.    o An Internet-Draft will be posted by July 30 based on the MIB draft
  110.      plus the changes discussed at the IETF meeting.
