  6. Minutes of the Router Requirements Working Group (RREQ)

  10. Summary

  12. The group reviewed the status of our charter and found that with the
  13. publication of RFC 1716, the RREQ Working Group is near completion.
  14. Fred Baker is working on a standards track revision, which includes CIDR
  15. and PPP documentation.  In support of CIDR, it is recommended that RIPv1
  16. (RFC 1058) be moved to Historic status.

  19. Minutes

  21. The Router Requirements Working Group met at the 31st IETF on Monday
  22. evening.  The group reviewed their current status, noting that with the
  23. publication of RFC 1716, the original working group goals had been met.
  24. Frank Kastenholtz was asked to revive Phil Almquist's two monographs,
  25. "Route-Leaking" and "Next-Hop" for publication as FYI RFCs before the
  26. 32nd IETF.

  28. Fred Baker touched briefly on his charge from the IESG to update
  29. RFC 1716 to reflect:

  32.    o Section numbers to names on references to RFCs 1122 and 1123
  33.    o CIDR Support
  34.    o Security
  35.    o New Topics
  36.    o Replace RFC 1009

  39. The support for CIDR is really a call to remove all classful,
  40. recommended Internet standards track protocols to Historic.  In this
  41. view, the working group instructs our area director to move RFC 1058 to
  42. Historic status.

  44. The group then moved into the "New Topics" area, where Fred was seeking
  45. direction from the working group and the area director.  The following
  46. list of actions was the result.

  49.    o SNMPv2 and MIBs -- Add references in the New RFC
  50.    o Mention IDPR -- Do not add, per area director
  51.    o Flesh out CIPSO -- Remove text from RFC
  52.    o IPv6 text?  -- Save for next working group
  53.    o Routing System Security?  -- Add references only if protocol
  54.      supports security options
  55.    o Routing Protocol Security?  -- Same as above
  56.    o IPv4 issues -- Add references to RFC 1108
  57.    o Route Caching Issues -- Frank K. and Paul T. will work on this
  58.    o Load Splitting and Fragmentation -- On the list for discussion
  59.    o CIDR detection -- Not for this document
  60.    o Multi-LIS on same media -- Andy M. is working with Fred on this
  61.    o Congestion Control -- Allison M. will provide documents
  62.    o DNS resolver -- Add as comments to documentation
  63.    o LinkLayer Requirements Document -- Not for this group

  66. All of these actions should be resolved before Fred publishes his RFC in
  67. January 95.  The group expects to hold a brief meeting in Danvers and
  68. then to disband.
