  7. ISN Working Group Minutes
  8. Tuesday, December 5th, 1995

  11. The ISN Working Group was convened at 1pm by Jodi Ito, co-chair.  
  12. Jennifer Sellers, co-chair, held an interim meeting at Tel-Ed
  13. in Ft. Lauderdale the previous week and was unable to attend this
  14. IETF.  There were no changes to the published agenda so introductions 
  15. were the first order of business.  
  16.  
  17. The revised ISN charter was reviewed and the date for the FYI RFC
  18. describing the document repository was set for Mar. 96.
  19.  
  20. There was some discussion regarding how to better disseminate
  21. the work of the ISN and User Services area of the IETF.  Some suggestions
  22. were to have them located in Compuserv's forum, Cisco's education
  23. archives, and ISOC's K-12 page.
  24.  
  25. Next the FYI 22 update was discussed and several attendees had some 
  26. suggestions:  
  27.       -    explain the differences between on-line services like
  28.     AOL and Compuserv and the Internet
  29.       -    talk about some of the technical security considerations like
  30.     firewalls;  talk about security policy issues such as access 
  31.     control management and password revocations; maybe give
  32.     some examples of security policies
  33.       - include questions to ask ISPs like how many modems do
  34.     you have, what is your user to modem ratio?, what are
  35.     your "tech support/help desk" hours? What kind of connection
  36.     do you have to the Internet?
  37. The document will be submitted to the IESG soon for publication as an RFC.

  39. The ISN document repository will be moving to Merit and the new
  40. location and move details will be posted to the mailing list. The
  41. FYI document describing the repository will be done by Mar. 96.
  42.  
  43. The directory of educational projects idea was re-visited and
  44. revitalized.  Rough consensus was reached on the basic fields of the
  45. directory and the general scope of the project.  Richard Perlman
  46. volunteered to design the prototype.  The data elements will be posted
  47. to the list for discussion.  After substantial discussion among the
  48. group, it was agreed that it would be a 3 month experimental project.
  49. April Marine vounteered that someone from NASA would monitor the
  50. submission during the experimental period.  A status report would be
  51. provided to the group in March and the final analysis done in June.

  53. Sepi Boroumand continued the discussion on her idea for a "how to create
  54. a help desk" paper.  The attendees had many suggestions and comments and
  55. Sepi will continue the discussion on-line.
