  6. DESCRIPTION:
  7.  
  8. IRC was first defined in RFC1459.  Since then, many groups started
  9. developing a set of extensions to IRC.  This working group should 
  10. develop standards-track IRC protocol extensions which are broadly 
  11. useful. The working group will support and discuss interoperability 
  12. of the necessary implementations to demonstrate the proposed protocols' 
  13. utility. Extensions should be designed in such a way that existing 
  14. clients supporting the IRC protocol will work with servers supporting 
  15. IRCUP extensions.
  16.  
  17. Extensions will include, but not be limited to:   
  18.  
  19.      support of Unicode
  20.      authorization and security mechanisms
  21.      multi-layer security
  22.      unified property mechanism
  23.      IP multicast transport layer for a network of IRC clients 
  24.        and servers
  25.      Linkage between IRC and applications based on other session-layer 
  26.        protocols

  32. 1) Review proposed charter
  33. 2) Formally introduce drafts that have been offered
  34. 3) Authors summarize their work to date, and goals of their protocol.
  35.    (BOF attendees will be encouraged to read the drafts and come 
  36.    prepared with questions.  Draft protocol design will not be debated 
  37.    during the BOF) Discussion of protocol goals and their appropriateness.
  38. 4) Propose the location of WG-related mailing lists.  
  39. 5) Outline development schedule for WG, should it be chartered.
  40. 6) Ask for sense of BOF whether a WG should be formed.
