IRC Update BOF (ircup) Wednesday, April 9 at 1415-1515 =============================== DESCRIPTION: IRC was first defined in RFC1459. Since then, many groups started developing a set of extensions to IRC. This working group should develop standards-track IRC protocol extensions which are broadly useful. The working group will support and discuss interoperability of the necessary implementations to demonstrate the proposed protocols' utility. Extensions should be designed in such a way that existing clients supporting the IRC protocol will work with servers supporting IRCUP extensions. Extensions will include, but not be limited to: support of Unicode authorization and security mechanisms multi-layer security unified property mechanism IP multicast transport layer for a network of IRC clients and servers Linkage between IRC and applications based on other session-layer protocols CONTACT PERSON: John Noerenberg AGENDA: 1) Review proposed charter 2) Formally introduce drafts that have been offered 3) Authors summarize their work to date, and goals of their protocol. (BOF attendees will be encouraged to read the drafts and come prepared with questions. Draft protocol design will not be debated during the BOF) Discussion of protocol goals and their appropriateness. 4) Propose the location of WG-related mailing lists. 5) Outline development schedule for WG, should it be chartered. 6) Ask for sense of BOF whether a WG should be formed.
