  13. Meetings of the three IPng Area working groups and one BOF were held
  14. during the 33rd IETF meeting in Stockholm, Sweden.

  18. Internet and OSI Harmonisation BOF (IOH)
  19.

  21. The meeting was held to discuss Internet and OSI harmonisation and was
  22. relayed on the MBone.  Note that ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6 (Data Comms) and SC18
  23. (mail) are now in liaison and SC21 (applications) will follow soon.
  24. IETF liaison with the ITU-T has also been established.

  26. Jack Houldsworth presented the new SC6 Strategy which aims at
  27. coexistence between IPv6 and the ISO Connectionless Networking Protocol
  28. (CLNP) and an enhanced Transport Protocol (TCPng?).  Alan Lloyd
  29. presented the latest status in the OSI application layers.

  31. During a lively discussion, it was agreed that exchanges on
  32. architectural principles are unlikely to bear fruit.  Results will come
  33. from concrete proposals from either side aimed at progressing specific
  34. projects.  The key areas are coexistence, transition and convergence, in
  35. that order.

  37. IETF members will be welcome at SC6, SC18 and SC21 meetings and at ITU
  38. meetings, but should be announced previously to help with logistics.
  39. Document transfers will be handled on behalf of the IETF by Susan
  40. Thompson.

  44. Address Autoconfiguration Working Group (ADDRCONF)

  47. The Address Autoconfiguration Working Group met twice during the week.
  48. The open issues in the draft, including particularly duplicate node
  49. detection, were discussed and good progress was made in resolving the
  50. final details.  There was general consensus that it would be a good idea
  51. to have some results from operational testing before the document be
  52. considered for Proposed Standard status.

  56. IPng Working Group (IPNGWG)
  57.  
  58. The IPng Working Group met a number of times during the week.  The
  59. primary mission was to first perform a final working group check on the
  60. IPv6 documents that were ready for advancement to Proposed Standard
  61. status then to look at the follow-on documents (e.g., Neighbor
  62. Discovery).  The documents for Proposed Standard were reviewed and a
  63. number of editorial changes were suggested and will be made before the
  64. RFCs are released.  Good progress was made on resolving the issues in
  65. the remaining documents.

  68. New Generation Transition Working Group (NGTRANS)
  69.  
  70. The NGTRANS Working Group met once during the Stockholm meeting.  It was
  71. scheduled to meet twice but since the whole week's agenda was
  72. accomplished during the first session the second one was canceled.  The
  73. meeting objective was to do a final working group review of the NGTRANS
  74. Internet-Draft before submitting it as a Proposed Standard RFC. A few
  75. editorial changes were agreed to and will be made before the documents
  76. are published as RFCs.
