  15. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  18. - 486 (100 MHz) or better IBM compatible computer
  19. - Windows 95 or Windows 3.1 operating system
  20. - Double-speed CD-ROM drive (or better)
  21. - Soundblaster 16 soundcard or compatible, and speakers
  22. - Patience. (You can't really 'fast forward' through these tutorials,
  23.   and they have a fairly slow pace!)

  25. RUNNING THE TUTORIALS
  26. ---------------------

  28. There are two ways you can launch the tutorials.  Either
  29.  
  30. 1. Insert the CD-ROM, run SETUP.EXE (if it doesn't run automatically),
  31.    click on the EXTRAS button on the Main Menu, then click on the 
  32.    MTN TUTORIALS button, or
  33. 2. Run the tutorials straight from the CD-ROM (If your cd-rom drive is
  34.    letter 'd' then the tutorials are at d:\mtn\mtn.exe)

  37. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TROUBLE-FREE OPERATION
  38. ------------------------------------------

  40. If you want to tutorials to fill your entire monitor, set your
  41. display to 640 x 480 pixels.  (The tutorials will run properly at
  42. higher resolutions - such as 800 x 600 - but they won't fill as much 
  43. of the screen).  If you don't know how to change your display settings,

  48. Your colour depth must be set to 256 or more colours.  (If you're
  49. not sure what your current settings are, don't panic - most computers
  50. are set to display at least 256 colours).

  52. While a tutorial segment is playing, you will not be able to halt the 
  53. segment, or perform any other actions.  You will have to wait until
  54. the current segment finishes playing before regaining control of your
  55. computer.

  58. TROUBLESHOOTING AUDIO
  59. ---------------------

  61. If the sound quality is not very high, don't panic - it's these 
  62. tutorials, and not your computer, which is at fault.  The voice-overs
  63. use 8-bit 22.05 kHz WAV files, which are a little 'hissy'.  You should
  64. be able to clearly make out what's being said, though.  If the sound is
  65. so poor that it's hard to understand, there may be a problem with
  66. your computer's configuration - see the following paragraph.

  68. If you can't hear any sound from your speakers, then the problem is 
  69. probably with your computer's configuration, and not with this 
  70. program.  Try running one of the audio applications which came with 
  71. your soundcard (such as Media Player, if you're running Windows 95),
  72. and attempt to get sound coming from your speakers.

  75. TROUBLESHOOTING OTHER PROBLEMS

  78. Although these tutorials have been prepared on the Windows 3.1 version
  79. of Formula Graphics, some display problems have been detected when
  80. running the program on Windows 3.1.  If the opening screen contains only
  81. the Title Bar and the Quit button (but none of the text links), then you 
  82. might try changing your display setting to only 16 colours.  (All the
  83. images will look terrible, but at least the text will be readable!)
  84. You can change your display settings from 'Windows Setup' in the Main 
  85. Program Group)

  87. If you're running Windows 95, and these multimedia tutorials begin 
  88. behaving unpredictably, I recommend that you restart your computer, 
  89. and run the tutorials again, WITHOUT ANY OTHER PROGRAMS RUNNING ON 
  90. YOUR COMPUTER.  (This may help to solve problems arising from conflicts 
  91. for system resources).
