1. Do one of the following:
o Insert Diskette 1 or the compact disc that contains the installation
program into the appropriate drive.
o Access the network where the multimedia programs reside.
Note: If you need help accessing the multimedia programs from the
network, contact your network administrator for assistance.
2. From the Source Drive field, select the drive that contains the information
to be installed.
3. In the Source Directory field, select the path that leads to the source
information.
4. In the Target field, select the drive on which you want to install the
multimedia programs.
Note: You must install all of the programs in the same directory (the default
directory is MMOS2). You can specify the target drive for the initial
installation but, you must use the default paths on that drive.

In the Subsystem Name field, deselect any subsystem that you do not want to
install.
Note: You can deselect as many as you want. If you change your mind, you can
select any deselected subsystem again.

Click on the name of the subsystem you want to select or deselect using mouse
button 1.
The Subsystems selected field indicates if a subsystem is being selected or
deselected.
Note: When you deselect a subsystem, the number in the field is decreased.
When you select a subsystem, the number in the field is increased.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Shutting Down the System ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Before you can use the MMPM/2 programs that were just installed, you must shut
down and restart your system using the OS/2 shutdown procedure.
Warning: You could lose information if you turn off your computer without
doing the shutdown procedure.
To shutdown your system:
1. Move the mouse pointer to an area on the screen that is clear of objects.
2. Click mouse button 2 to display the pop-up menu for the desktop folder.
3. Select the Shutdown... menu item.
4. Select the appropriate action for any shutdown window that is displayed.
Refer to shutting down OS/2 in the online Master Help Index for more
information about shutting down your system.

If you suspend or interrupt the installation, you can:
o Resume the process while the installation program is still running.
o Resume the installation at the point it was suspended or interrupted.
o End the installation program and resume later.
Resuming when the installation program is already running
Select Cancel in the MMPM/2 - Suspension Confirmation window and follow the
instructions in the subsequent windows to complete the installation.
Resuming the installation after the installation program was stopped and then
later restarted
1. Follow the installation procedure until the MMPM/2 - Previous Installation
Interrupted window appears.
2. Select Continue and follow the instructions in the subsequent windows to
complete the installation.

You can specify the subsystems that you want to install, the source drive, and
the destination (target) drive for the subsystems. The information also shows
the total amount of free space required for the selected subsystems. It shows
the name, version, and size of the subsystems in the installation package, as
well as those already installed.
Note: An installation-package version can be installed over a currently
installed version, even if the package version is the same as, or older
than, the installed version.

The Source fields specify the complete path to the multimedia source to be
installed, list all drives and all associated directories.

The Source Drive field initially displays the name of the default source drive.
If the default drive does not contain the multimedia files, select the drive
that contains the files:
1. Select the down arrow to the right of the Source Drive field to display a
list of available drives.
2. Select a new drive from the list.

The Source Path field displays the complete path leading to the multimedia
installation subsystems source.
It is filled in when you select a directory in the Source Directory field.

The Source Directory field displays a list of directories available on the
source drive. Select the directory you want to use from the directory.
The selected directory will be displayed in the Path field. Once a selection
is made, ".." (the symbol for the parent directory) becomes the first choice in
the Directory field. To return to the parent (previous) directory, double
click on the ".." symbol.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Help for the Target Drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Target Drive field is used to display the letter of the drive the files
will be copied to.
To change the target drive:
1. Select the arrow to the right for a list of available drives.
2. Select a drive.
After a drive is selected and the installation process starts, the selected
drive becomes the default drive. You must use the default path for the
selected drive.
Note: Network drives also are listed. You must have write access to a drive
to use it as your target drive.

This field displays the total amount of hard-disk space required to install the
selected subsystems.

Use the Subsystems selected field to see the number of subsystems that are
selected for installation.

This field displays the subsystems you can install. Initially all the
subsystems are selected for installation.
Note: This field is blank until a path leading to the installation program is
specified.
During installation of the MMPM/2 system, several programs are automatically
installed. They include:
o Installation
o Volume Control
o Media Players
o Multimedia Data Converter
o Multimedia Setup (which includes MIDI and Closed Captioning application
programs)
In addition to the programs that are automatically installed, you can
selectively install the following subsystems.
o IBM M-Audio
o CD Audio
o Videodisc
Note: Initially all the subsystems are selected for installation. If a
version of a subsystem to be installed is already installed on your
system, the installed subsystem version number and size is displayed.
Deselect the subsystems that you do not want installed; then select Install.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. Help for IBM M-Audio ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If you have an IBM M-Audio* adapter installed in your system and you want to
take advantage of audio features, select IBM M-Audio for installation.

If you have a compact disc (CD) device in your system, select CD Audio.

as a reference for modifying the CONFIG.SYS file.

MMOS2 directory. It contains the changes that the multimedia installation
program would make to the CONFIG.SYS file if you had selected Yes.
Note: If you do not make the changes to the CONFIG.SYS file that appear in
the CONFIGCH.NEW file, your multimedia applications will not run
correctly.

location. It can be identified by its file-name extension, which is a
3-digit number. The file with the highest extension number is the last
renamed version. For example, if your system has files CONFIG.001,
CONFIG.002, and CONFIG.003, the file with extension 003 is the latest
version.

To help determine what the problem is, you might save the CONFIG.SYS as a
renamed file and examine its contents for possible errors. If you cannot

CONFIG.SYS files.
To restore the latest unmodified file, rename it CONFIG.SYS.
The latest file version can be identified by its file-name extension which is a
3-digit number. The file with the highest extension number is the latest
version. For example, if your system contains files CONFIG.001, CONFIG.002,
and CONFIG.003, the file with extension 003 is the latest version.

The multimedia installation program could not open the CONFIG.SYS file to make
required changes. A new file, CONFIGCH.NEW, was created and contains the
required changes. This error might not cause an unsuccessful installation if no
other errors have occurred.
Use the contents of the new file as a reference while editing your CONFIG.SYS
file to make the required changes.
