ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Playing a Wave File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Digital Audio Player is used to play digital audio files. An audio file
contains sounds that have been converted to a format that can reside on a disk,
diskette, or other personal computer storage device. A digital audio file is
also referred to as a wave audio or wave file.
The file name extension usually indicates the type of device that the file can
be played on. For example, a file with a .WAV extension can be played on a
digital audio device. and a file with a .MID extension can be played on a
sequencer device.
1. Select Multimedia Presentation Manager/2.
2. Select Digital Audio.
For additional information, use the Help menu choices in the Digital Audio
window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Help for Playing a MIDI File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The MIDI Player is used to play MIDI files. A MIDI file contains sounds that
have been stored in a format that is used by musical equipment, such as
synthesizers and drum machines.
The file name extension usually indicates the type of device that the file can
be played on. For example, a file with a .MID extension can be played on a
sequencer device, and a file with a .WAV extension can be played on a digital
audio device.
1. Select Multimedia Presentation Manager/2.
2. Select MIDI Player.
For additional information, use the Help menu choices in the MIDI Player
window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Help for Playing a Laserdisc ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

have multiple players playing simultaneously.
1. Select Multimedia Presentation Manager/2.
2. Select the players you want.
Note: If you have only one M-Audio adapter installed in your system, you can
not play both the Digital Audio and MIDI players simultaneously.

1. Select Multimedia Presentation Manager/2.
2. Select Digital Audio Recorder.
For additional information, use the Help menu choices in the Digital Audio
Recorder window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Volume Control ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Volume Control is used to control the volume levels of all media player
devices that you have running in your system. Volume Control also is used to
turn the sound on or off for all of the players.
Usually the Volume Control window is displayed on the desktop. If the window is
not displayed:
1. Select Multimedia Presentation Manager/2.
2. Select Volume Control.
For additional information, select Help in the Volume Control window.
Related information:
o Controlling the Volume of Multiple Devices
o MMPM/2 System External Volume Control
o Adjusting volume
o Saving a low Volume level
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Help for Controlling the Volume of Multiple Devices ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Volume Control determines the volume level in terms of a percentage. This
percentage is applied to all devices for which the volume can be set.
If other application programs (such as the MMPM/2 Media Player) are controlling
specific devices, then adjusting the Volume Control has the following effects:
o Decreasing the Volume Control will decrease the volume for a device, even if
the controlling application program has set the volume of the device to the
maximum level.
o Increasing the Volume Control will increase the volume for a device up to the
level set by the controlling application program.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Help for MMPM/2 System External Volume Control ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
It is possible to control the volume of an external device regardless of the
volume settings shown by the Volume Control or other applications. For
instance, a device can be connected to an audio amplifier or powered speakers.
In this case, it is possible to raise or lower the actual volume for that
device even if the Volume Control settings are unchanged. One exception is if
the volume is set to 0 or if it is muted.
Of course, once a given volume has been set externally, Volume Control can be
used to lower or raise the volume level.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Help for Adjusting Volume ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Setting the Volume Control to a given level will affect devices differently,
depending upon the capability of the particular device.
For example, certain models of the IBM CD-ROM device support only two volume
settings, On or Off. In this case, adjusting the Volume Control will have no
apparent effect on the volume of the device.
Similarly, some devices (such as the IBM M-Audio Capture and Playback Adapter),
reduce the volume more quickly than the Volume Control would indicate. That is,
if you use the dial control to reduce the volume from 100%, you will notice
that the volume is effectively zero, even if the volume dial control is
indicating 75%.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Help for Saving a Low Volume Setting ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Although you cannot save the volume-level setting in the Volume Control window
when the sound is muted, you can adjust the volume to very low levels and save
the setting.
You can use another application program, but you will notice that no audible
sound is present. To produce sound, use the Volume Control window to adjust
the volume level to a higher setting, then save the setting.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Help for Multimedia Closed Captioning ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Closed captioning is the ability for an application to provide a visual
representation of sounds to enable those whose hearing is impaired to view what
is being said.
1. Select Multimedia Presentation Manager/2.
2. Select Multimedia Setup.
For additional information, select the Help push button in the Multimedia Setup
window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Help for Media Converter ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the Media Converter to convert multimedia files from one supported file
format to another. For example, you can convert files from StoryBoard Plus
image format to OS/2 bit-map format.
1. Select Multimedia Presentation Manager/2.
2. Select Media Converter.
For additional information, select the Help push button in the Media Converter
window.
