ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. General Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS/2 Corrective Service Facility is a utility program that applies
corrections (service) to the OS/2 operating system and other OS/2 products. It
updates files in a set of directories associated with each selected product
within a CSD package.
The main window contains a list of products found on the system that are
eligible for service. Select those products you want to be serviced by
highlighting the appropriate entries in the Products list. All eligible
products are initially selected.
When all selections have been made, click on Service to start the service
process. If you would like to change to backed up, archived, or uncommited
products, click on Change product list.
Note: You will not be able to end the service process after you have pressed
OK on the service panel.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Application in Use ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Corrective Service program has encountered a file that is in use and cannot
be updated.
Close the indicated application and restart Service.
If you are unable to close the application, shut down your system. Place the
first Corrective Service Diskette in the A: Drive and reboot your machine using
Ctrl-Alt-Del.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Updating Files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Updating Files window shows the current file being serviced and the
approximate percentage of the service that is complete.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Insert Diskette ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Insert the indicated diskette into drive A. Then, press 'Enter' or OK to
continue. If there is no diskette in drive A or the wrong diskette is in drive
A when you select OK, a warning beep will sound and the window will remain
open.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Service Permission ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A read-only, hidden, or system file has been encountered that should be
serviced.
If you do not replace this file, your system will not be at the same corrective
service level.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Service Permission Verification ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select OK to prevent the indicated file from being serviced. You should only
select OK if there is a known reason for not servicing the file.
Select Cancel to service the indicated file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Newer File Service Permission ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The indicated file to be serviced has a date later than the new file on the
corrective service diskettes.
Select OK to service the file.
Select Cancel only if there is a known reason for not servicing the file.
If you select Cancel, this file will not be at the same corrective service
level as the rest of the files for this product.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Corrective Service Facility Logfile ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The logfile is a cumulative service history. You may browse the actions. The
logfile contains information about the products that are being updated. The
end of the file contains the most recent actions and may contain error
messages.
Select Cancel to return to the error window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Corrective Service Facility Fatal Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
An error has occurred that prevents the Corrective Service Facility from
continuing.
Select Display Logfile to view the service history.

operation.
Depending on the error, an Exit button may be displayed. If this button is
displayed, it may be used to exit the service process.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Corrective Service Facility Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Yes if you wish to perform the specified operation. Otherwise, select
No.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Wait ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Wait window is displayed while lengthy operations are being performed. The
window will be removed when the operation is complete.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Access Control List protected file ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Corrective Service program has encountered an Access Control List- (ACL)
protected file and cannot be updated.
Exit the Corrective Service Facility, and contact your system administrator for
more information. The Corrective Service Facility cannot update your system
until the ACL-protected file has been released.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Checksum Error Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A file has been encountered that is not at the original corrective service
level. To apply this service pack, all files must be at the prerequisite
level. Please ensure that your system is at the prerequisite level before
applying service.
You must replace this file with the original file provided on the installation
diskettes for the product.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. Service Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A listing of the products that you have previously selected are displayed under
Products. Enter the necessary paths in the Archive and Backup fields.
Product
This field lists the product name, level, and the path on which the
product is located. The base level is always shown. If service has been
applied, then the service level will be listed to the right of the base
level and will be enclosed in parentheses. This field is for viewing
purposes only.
Archive
Use this field to enter the required archive path if the product is being
serviced for the first time. If the product has previously been
serviced, the archive path will be protected. The archive path can only
be altered using Redirect.
Backup
Use this field to enter the backup path for each product listed. If the
product is being serviced for the first time, you will not be able to
enter a backup path. This is because the archive and backup are the same
thing at this point. If the product has previously been serviced, the
backup path is optional. Specifying a backup path for a previously
serviced product will result in the deletion of the previous backup, if
one exists.
Select OK to perform the service, or Cancel to return to the previous window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Backout Service Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
In performing a Backout, you are backing out to a previous fix-level backup or
the last base-level archive of the product.
Products
This field lists all the selected products available for Backout. This
field can only be viewed.
Target Level
This field lists the target levels for each product. The target level is
the level to which you would back out to (previous backup or base level).
This field can only be viewed.
Select OK to perform the backout, or Cancel to return.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Commit Service Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
In performing a Commit, you are committing a product at its current level and
removing the ability to backout. The archive is not affected unless you are
committing a service pack. For example, if you are completely satisfied with a
product at its current level, you would want to commit this product.
Product
This field lists all of the selected products available to commit. This
field can only be viewed.
Archive Level
This field lists the archive level for each product. The reference to
this directory will be removed after you commit. This field can only be
viewed.
Backup Level
This field lists the backup level of each product. All backups will be
deleted after you commit. This field can only be viewed.
Select OK to commit, or Cancel to return.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. Redirect Service Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Redirecting an archive alters the reference to the location of your archive
directory. Using redirection would facilitate consolidation of archive
directories onto a network drive. You can only redirect the archive of a
particular product to a new path if the archive exists at the new path for the
same system level and for all files that were in the original archive. The
system level and file lists are compared and verified. Failure of a match in
either case results in an incomplete redirection of archive paths.
Product
This field lists the selected archived products. You can only view this
field.
Source Directory
This field lists source directories (where the archive currently resides)
for each product. You can only view this field.
Target Directory
Use this field to enter the desired target path that will now point to
your archive directory. You must enter a new target directory for each
product.
Select OK to redirect, or Cancel to return.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20. Change Product List Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select the type of product list that you want displayed. The system will be
searched for products that meet the required criteria. If a product list does
not exist, it will be grayed, indicating it is unavailable for viewing.
Select OK to continue, or Cancel to return.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 21. Directories or Products Not Selected ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
At least one product must be selected to start service.
If there are no products listed, service cannot be initiated.
Select a product from the Products list in the main window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 22. Service Complete ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Service completed successfully.
Select OK to end the Corrective Service Facility.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 23. No Serviceable Products ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
No matching products were found on the target system.
Matching products might not be found if the corrective service diskettes are at
a service level lower than the base level of the system.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 24. Exit Corrective Service Facility ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select OK to exit the Corrective Service Facility.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 25. User Exit Failure ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The specified user-exit program failed. The Corrective Service Facility will
continue when you select OK. View the logfile after the Corrective Service
Facility completes to determine the problem.
