- PURGE GB-303 Bassline
-
- version 7
-
- manual of operation
- (simplified english version)
-
- 1. Introduction
-
- The PURGE GB-303 is a program to render simple bass samples. It can also be
- used to make sounds used in Acid House music.
-
- 1.1. Notes on operation and the manual
-
- Up to now we have spend more time on developing the sound quality than the
- intuitive user interface or a correct english manual. It is therefore
- recommended to study the screen carefully since all keys used for operation
- are printed on it.
-
- 2. Using the sequencer
-
- The sequencer consists of two parts: the pattern editor and the track editor.
-
- 2.1. Entering basslines
-
- 2.1.1. Choosing a memory location
-
- To enter a bassline, move the cursor in the memory map to the memory location
- you want the bassline located at.
-
- 2.1.2. Editing basslines
-
- The basslines are edited in the pattern editor field. You can use the keys
- printed around the pattern editor to edit.
-
- A single line in the editor looks like this:
-
- │C#│0││
- └┤ │ └┤
- ┌┼─┘ │
- ┌┼┼────┘
- ││├ C...B hit a new note
- ││├ hold let the note fade out
- ││└ pause stop note and pause
- │└─ octave transpose note by one ocatve up/down
- ├── slide portamento to next note.
- └── accent this note is played louder, according to the accent-value
-
- 2.1.4. Length of a bassline
-
- The lenght of a bassline is given by the speed, the number of notesteps and
- whether the one-sixtenths-mode or the triole-mode is actived. The triolemode
- is used for correct replay of trioles. When activated the bassline is not
- divided in sixteen Sixteenths but in twelfe Thirds.
-
- 2.2. The trackeditor
-
- There are seven different tracks with 64 pattern entries each. Every entry can
- be transposed:
-
- │A3│05┐│
-
- └┤ └┤└──── da capo / dal segno position
- │ └─────── transposing
- └────────── bassline within track bank
-
- The last colum shows the da capo and dal segno position.
-
- da capo = last entry
- dal segno = loop position
-
- 3. The synthesizer
-
- The synthesizer is controlled by the six slide-controllers and the waveform
- selection.
-
- 3.1. finetune-controller
-
- This controller tunes the synthesizer by +/- 2 halftones.
-
- 3.2. cutoff-frequency
-
- This slider controls the cutoff frequency of the lowpass filter.
-
- 3.3. Resonance
-
- This slider controls the resonance of the filter. Turn on for Acid.
-
- 3.4. Envelope modulation
-
- This controller influences the initial cut-off frequency.
-
- 3.5. Decay
-
- This slider controls the speed of filter-modulation and the envelope of the
- note.
-
- 3.6. Accent
-
- This controller shows you the ratio of accented notes to unaccented notes.
-
- 3.7. Tempo
-
- This slider controls the speed of the GB-303.
-
- 3.8. Volume
-
- This slider controls volume and distortion of the samples
-
- 3.9. selecting the waveform
-
- By pushing this key, you can toggle between saw-wave and square-wave.
-
- (4. + 5. not yet translated)
-
- 6. The rest
-
- 6.1. how to pay or how not to
-
- This program is freeware because we used PMODE/W by Tran and he wants $500
- which I don't have. ANYWAY... I will not reject gifts esp. in form of money.
- Money will also have a very positive effect on further program development.
- I have thought of about $15/20DM or so.
