Detar v1.09
(c) 1990
You now have in your possesion a very powerful tool. This is a
crippled version of DeTar v2.0. The full version allows you to read tar files
off of a disk formatted and written to by a sparcstation 1(High or low
density) and detar them as they are copied into whatever directory you are
currently in.
As of this release, the program was designed to handle only drives A
and B. If, however, you have a special case(Your 3 1/2 is drive D for
instance), drop me a postcard or letter and we'll work something out.
What is the usefulness of this program? Well, there is a vast
resource of material(public domain and shareware) out in the net-world. FTP
provides an excellent method for obtaining these programs. However, most
mainframe systems are heavily accounted, and anyone who has downloaded stuff
from them knows that this can chew into your allocated resources. This
program allows you to tar files onto a Sparc disk and detar them onto your MS
Dos machine.
This version(v1.09 Crippled) will allow you to see which files are on
your sparc disk and how big they are. The full version will allow you to
actually detar the programs onto whichever drive you choose.
BE WARNED!!! As of this release date, DeTar does not handle directory
structures in your tar file. This is not a major problem(Why would you be
tarring a directory structure to port to an ms-dos machine anyway??). Just be
aware.
I disclaim any and all responsibility for any loss of data or other
resources through the use of this program. This program is shareware. Please
be honorable. If you like this program and find it useful, please send a
check or money order for $18.00 to:
David Hoelzer
205 Oakland Ave.
Central Islip, NY 11722
to purchase a copy of the full version. This will also put you on a
mailing list for future updates. Please specify the format that you would
like the program on.
