Ahh... Seems like we're all comming out of the woodwork lately, eh? ;)

I've lurked on this list for god-knows-how-long and of the several lists I
get (dirtylist included) this one's been the most 'useless' of them all...
Until this little flame war began, that is.

As Wouter said, the flame war started over Napster and MP3's.. Oddly
enough, that's how most of us lurkers probably came into contact with
Orbital in the first place, and it's interesting to see people bicker about
it. It was a wasted 10-20 minutes in my life reading those things, but at
least it was entertaining.

All of it kinda reminds me of my days SysOp'ing a local BBS. Forums -
entire confrences - would go dead for months on end... Then, someone would
start a flame war, someitmes on purpose. A few months later, the forum
would meander back on topic or somewhere near it.. Anyway, to get to my
point, I see neither Brendan nor the people responding to his provocations
to be a problem. It's all part of the evolution of the fragile community of
a mailing list.

This Orbital list has much less of a community than the DirtyList, which
has always perplexed me, but maybe this discussion and will help drag the
community out of the woodwork and get some interesting conversations going!

I hope it will... 'cause there sure is alot to talk about.

In the August issue of Muzik magazine (not sure if this is the US or what, I
don't go to the bookstore often) Alison said this about Orbital:

I found it interesting because they make some beautiful music with her
voice.. I guess she worked with Tricky too but I haven't heard much Tricky
other than one music video or two that I don't remember.

learned of a compilation tribute album set to be released next year,

responsible (and probably threw the most vehement flame), and also since
i think it was largely misinterpreted, i guess i'll chime in. (ha! that
was an orbital reference!)

i never said or implied that brendan should be booted. i was hoping (this
was obviously unrealistic of me) that he would realize what an arse he was
being and leave voluntarily. what i posted was something like an impolite

um, actually, yes. and i'm not by any means an aggressive or violent
person. but if i was with a group of people, and someone turned to someone

you - why don't you leave?" if people treated this forum more like a group
of actual individuals with feelings, we wouldn't be having these problems.
but in brenden's case - well, let's just say that i feel strongly that
there are some outbursts that should not go unchecked. perhaps my outburst
should have been checked as well - that's up to you guys. but in my mind
at least, what i did was for the good of the community. sorry if it just
contributed to the problem - i was pissed, which isn't a good excuse i
know, but i just really would like this list to go back to something like
it was, say, 4 years ago. i used to learn a lot from this forum.

oh, and i would like to echo what someone else said about being on the
digest - it's pretty hard to filter emails that way. i'm considering
switching to the regular version just so i can filter out brendan - how
sad is that?!?

think a lot of people here are more reluctant to post stuff with brenden
around. when you're hanging out with your friends somewhere, and there's a

now, a sincere word of apology to brendan. i understand that you probably

Be informed!  Darren Emerson has left Underworld, and the duo that still is
in Underworld (Rick Smith, Karl Hyde) are releasing in september a live
album & DVD called "Everything, Everything". On top of that, the cowgirl
remixes that were mentioned are there to promote the release of the live
album and DVD.

So, i wouldn't state that they'd break up, did they? :)

I think I explained this WAAAAAAY back when this was news.  Right now, this shit
is almost a month old and you are still bitching about it.  I don't know what's

What's sad is that you can't even read the messages I put out.  It's not that I
spew out "FUCK YOU!!!  I HATE YOU ALL!!!  YOU ALL SUCK MY BALLS!!!".  Even when
I flame, I have some intelligent shit to say along with it.

And yes, I've heard Ambient.  It sucks, IMO.

It started out as Napster, then led into GNU shit.  Just let conversations flow
the way they flow.  After all, there was multiple people (not just two)
interested in the thing.

Filter, Aphex Twin, Chris Cornell, Orbital, Depeche Mode.  That should be
interesting.  And SP is finally breaking up?  I guess it was just their time,
like The Cure and Soul Coughing.  (I'm still pissed that the world's greatest
nonsense-lyrical band broke up, and UW lost an important member.)

An friend of mine steered me to a relly neat label in Chicago{?} called
Hefty records. But they have some of the best Flash4 animations that
i've seen.

The link below points to their 'featured' disc, "Mondii".
Clicking on the center image brings up another Flash window with all
sorts
of moving lines and sign language hands, and flashing track titles.
But included is a bank of 7 half-oval buttons on the left side that play
loops,
one at a time or as many as you like. In the main part of the image are
20 or more
little peach squares that become active[swiveling] and blue when
clicked.
These also play really fun little looped samples.
