-
- Mr Oizo - Analog Worms Attack
-
- Just got that one..
- Quite interesting stuff... he carries on what one might have guessed
- his musical style might be upon hearing Flat beat!..
-
- Very analogue, quite experimental and VERY minimalistic
- sequencer-arrangements.. Lotsa 70s loops... Scratching on some
- tracks..
- Like said before it's all in a similar style to Flat Beat,
- though not a ripoff of it!.. But if you didn't like flatbeat, you
- won't like this one either! He's got the closed hihats and disted
- ultra-low bassdrums through most of his tracks though! 8)
-
- I dunno, i got somehow reminded of early Aphex Twin for a
- second, prolly due to the distorted bassdrum in some (most? 8)
- tracks, but then again It's much more minimalistic than Aphex and
- more rhythmic...
- Hey! 8) He sampled John Cleese's "And now for something completely
- different!" 8))))
-
- Summing up:
- Some analogue synths and a 1210, maybe a sampler that's about it.. if
- you're into complex multi-layered stuff like Brendan this is not for
- you! 8)
- I wouldn't call it a kicker, but an effort to go into a
- different direction, which is always good!..
- Not mind blowing, but definately worth a listen...

- Last I heard, read it on the internet somewhere. That the two
- members (forget their names) had a falling out, but where able to patch
- things up and have made a new album and a single is to be released very
- soon. The hype of this new album is that its sort of rockish with more
- guitars and somewhat less beats, but a lot of use of samples. Sorry I
- couldn't be more specific, I read the news weeks ago. Check your local
- music stores soon to find the single. BTW, I guess the Orb have made a new
- album and single, too. But they are having trouble ala Orbital in securing
- a label to release the album in the states. They want to release the album
- both in the UK and US at the same time, but the US and UK labels are
- bickering over this. I am eagerly awaiting both of these new albums.

-
- They say that Cydonia (album name) is slotted for Mid-Feb. Here is the info
- I read on it:
- * the band were fronted a significant amount of money by
- Universal/Island to record the album (standard major-label operating
- procedure);
- * the costs of recording the album must be recouped from the sales of
- that album;
- * the band's contract specifies that sales of copies imported to the
- US from the UK/Europe do not count towards the band's recoupment of these
- monies;
- * therefore the band loses money if the album does not get a
- simultaneous release in the US and the UK/Europe;
- * additionally, the label are unlikely to fund a tour based on a
- UK/Europe-only release;
- * and the US branch of the label cannot seem to find a release slot
- they feel is suitable for the album;
- * therefore the album is not coming out yet.

- New Album to come out in early to mid 2000! Very psychadelic stuff, some
- guitar, and lots of distorted old shite. I'm on the FSOL mailing list, and
- we've been talking a ton about this. They HAVE NOT split up, and are "hard
- at work in the Dollis Hill Studio," which I find to be complete nonsense.
- They probably just taking more mind distorting drugs...
-
- Check out this site for all your FSOL needs:
- http://ds.dial.pipex.com/nick.woodfine/fsol.shtml
-
- Also there is the info for getting put on the VERY active FSOL mailing list.
- *wink wink*

- Ever seen Ozzy live- tearing the heads off of kittens and spitting
- up blood and fur. That's what Karl Hyde does only except he pretends to
- play guitar. Just kidding. I saw them a few years ago and they actually
- have quite a good stage performance. Visuals and lights are pretty typical
- for a techno concert. Kind like all the words and such that are displayed
- during the Born Slippy video. Karl does dance around quite a bit and strum
- the guitar he wore these enormous headphones when I saw them. I think you
- will have a really good time. They are one of the better live acts around.
- Much better than Crystal Method IMHO. Not even close to Orbital though.
-
- Have fun,

- I saw their show at the Electric Factory in late April this year and I
- was knocked out. Karl was doing I'm-off-my-nut-style moves the entire
- time, dancing his ass off, he made an awesome sight. Darren and Rick
- were dressed in black and kind of laid low behind the samplers. They
- also had phat projections in back, a lot of Dubnobass style art, random
- words etc, mixed in with images of them broadcast live by an on-stage
- cameraman. I remember they started off with Air Towel and Rowla and Push
- Upstairs... played most of the Beaucoup Fish. The crowd went most mental
- for Born Slippy (which they switched the parts on, like Impact) and
- Bruce Lee, where Karl worked a Dubnobass-art-covered guitar with a midi
- pickup over the bridge. Also they ended their encore with Rez, which
- blew me sky-high... And best of all, there were like young kids and
- people as old as fifty on the floor... they even got the parents in the
- back to dance :) Sweet show, hope this wasn't a big spoiler. Have fun :)

- Anyway, I'd put the cut between Dr Who/Chime at 4:54, this is where you hear the

- 26 seconds. Another choice could be 5:20 where chime kicks in properly.

- Time for a new debate. What's the worst track Orbital has recorded?
-
- I don't listen to the Yellow album much. I find it a bit weak but they were

-
- However, I can find absolutely no excuse for the abomination that is
- An Fhomhair. This track really grates on me like fingers on a blackboard.
