- I happen to like Speedy J a lot. I only have one (2) CD's of his.
- Its called G-Spot and it had a limited edition Live CD included with studio
- album. Its definitely techno, similar to Orbital in that its layered and
- layered music and changing styles and tempos. Not as artistic of course as
- Orbital but still very good. Its similar to Juno Reactor, if you've heard
- of them. I don't know how else to describe it, the beats are too fast or
- two slow, somewhere in between, I think its very creative and enjoyable
- techno.

- depends on whether you're talking about recently or not. G Spot is pretty
- old, but the live CD is great. I love his more recent stuff - the last

-
- He does techno / trance / house / ambient. Many of his albums sound
- completely different, actually, so beware.
- His very early stuff is typical 4/4 house stuff, released on plus8.
- Then he was more trancey-technoy with G-spot (warp records, I think).
- I would recommend that one, assuming you are into orbitalish-style
- music (a safe asssumption I guess :) ). Don't know too much
- about Ginger, the next album, but I think its a bit different than
- G-spot. His latest stuff, Public energy number 1, is very hard techno,
- and also a beatless ambient CD on FAX. I can't remember the name of
- that one, it was very odd so I forgot it. In the vein of the
- ambient fills on G-Spot, I think, so that is probably a good one.
-
- He also did a co-op CD with Mike Paradinas (u-Ziq) on planet Mu,
- I haven't heard that but the reviews were pretty good. (its on
- my "to buy" list, for what its worth :) )
-
- Ok, I think I've said enough, feel free to E-mail me offlist
- if ya want.
-
-
- Later,
- Aronne.
-
-
- PS, Oh, also, I should add this cool quite from him
- (one of my favorite quotes because it is a good description
- of the electronic-music listening process for me :) )
-
-
-
-
- " If I hear something, my brain remembers it as something visual rather
- than something in sound, I remember sounds by the way they look more than
- the way they sound, and that works in both ways. If I hear something I
- remember it by the way it looks, but also when I have an idea it's a
- graphic idea, it's like a structure or a texture, a shape or a colour or
- something like that, and I translate that into audio."

- Actually, Ginger predates G Spot, and is considered one of the breakthrough
- records on so-called "intelligent dance" music. "Pepper" is a standout track
- on that LP. He also appeared on the Warp Artificial Intelligence discs with
- the likes of Autechre.
-
- Artistically, I would indeed compare him to Orbital, especially prior to what I
- now consider to be their "landscape/soundtrack" phase, if you know what I
- mean.

-
- p.s. I saw Orbital at the Paradiso in Amsterdam on April 15th. It was my
- first time seeing them, and they just rocked the house! I recorded the show,
- but since I was wearing the mike, there's *lots* and *lots* of parts where
- I'm hooting or (even worse) "singing" along. :-( I also got to chat with P&P
- during the sound check, and was quite impressed at how unprententious and
- open they were. They'll be back in Amsterdam on May 29th, so perhaps I
- will plug
- into the mixing desk as was actually offered to me in Paradiso (I am an idiot,
- and had no cables).

-
- Especially as his style has also changed, but in the opposite direction.
- Orbital got real smooth and 'cinematic' while Speedy J got loads harder (if
- you can get harder than being credited in part with inventing gabba...).
- But his old stuff definitely sits well with Orbital's older stuff. And his
- new stuff sits well with the best around. The 3 Phase (Sven Rohrig and
- Speedy J) 'Snafu Sessions' single is great too (forgot to mention that
- before).
-
-
- re orbital: Steve, you said Schematix has remixed the new single - have you
- heard it? Any chances of a preview on Loopz?

- I just recently got this on Vinyl and it kicks ass. It's a part of the
- Planet V compilation that I bought for $90 cdn on vinyl. It's awesome. If
- anyone wants to some good dark/jazzy drum and bass, get this compilation.
- It's also available on cd. It's strange, cdnow says that they have this
- compilation on vinyl for $17.99, but it's 8 records and I can't see them
- selling it for that cheap. Does anyone know why they have it at this price?
- Sites in the UK have the equivalent price to mine in pounds.

- Hey,
-
- I got The Middle of Nowhere over the weekend (payed almost $35 cdn for it)
- and I do have to say that I love it. However, I find that they are
- progressing backwards in quality. I find the songs on In Sides were of
- greater quality (or maybe it's just because I love that cd so much) Nothing
- Left and Knowhere to Run are my favourite tracks. I find the beginning to
- Knowhere to run almost sounds like an Orbital B-Side and then it progresses
- into an amzing song (5;00 is my favourite). I don't really like I don't
- Know you People, it's not as melodic as Orbital usually is and in some parts
- sounds almost noisey. Way out sounds so familiar. I swear it was used for
- a Sci-Fi movie a couple of years back. And I also like An Fhomhair better
- than Otono. The packaging is more along the lines of Autechre and not
- Orbital. But, Overall I do have to say that I love the cd and am very happy
- that they didn't sell out, however I did't think that they would.

- allright its been a looong time since I've been online. and for a number of
- reasons my lifes been hell. well, school has seemed to be building up
- pressure in my life. I dealt with alot of shite from the students, teachers
- and staff. I dealt with even more shite withh this littleton colorado
- shooting. I have been accused of being like the gunmen, I have been accused
- of being crazy, people thought I was going to shoot kids in school, all
- because of my appearance. so I quit school, sort of, I am doing a homebound
- thing for the rest of the year, I get my work for the week and am expected to
- do it at home. next year is an alternative program. I lost my hair, all 7
- inches of it. you see I got some great dreadlocks, blue, green and yellow. my
- parents flipped and pulled a devious stunt on me. they cut off my hair while
- I was sleeping. so I left home for three days. serves em right the effs. but
- the only good news I have... I got the new album. hell yeah. spent some
- thirty bucks on the thing, but I got it. I dont even know how it was in the
- store. well, its held me together over the past weeks. good album it is.
- esspecially nothing left parts one and two. it gets me feeling sad and
- depressed, makes me want to leave, or cry or something, seeing as my lifes
- been turned upside down and theres nothing left, than the secound part kicks
- in and reminds me that since theres nothing left that I've got a clean
- pallett for the next part of my life. well, that was a long peice of my life
- summed up in a very short horrible way. well. I'll go now.
