-
- I'm sendin' this to the list because it might be better than mailing Loopz
- privately; The word is... Orbital are coming to Croatia some time in May.
- I've heard this from two different people who don't know each other, so
- if they're pulling my leg it has to be an awful coincidence. I know I never
- heard anything about P&P coming to this parts of Europe, so I need to
- know if there's been any talk about this 'in London'.
- I have yet to get ahold of the supposed flyer for that gig, but until then
- I'm asking if anyone knows anything about this.
-
- On the other hand, they might just be _playing_ Orbital on that party...
- (i'd go nevertheless)

-
- There have been several 'official' versions of the Dr Who Theme. The
- original 1963 Ron Grainer theme was re-recorded in the late seventies
- but was pretty much the same as the original Radiophonic Workshop
- theme. However, a more up-to-date sounding electronic version (far
- inferior in my opinion) was aired in the early eighties until the
- programme's eventual cancellation.
-
- The original is still the best - but check out Dr Pablo & Dub
- Syndicate's ambient dub reggae version (complete with melodica solo)
- on the On-U Sound LP 'North Of The River Thames'. There was also a
- dreadful disco version in about 1978 by a group(?) called Mankind.

- Seeing as it's Pete Tong who is the presenter of the essential mixes, it
- might be worth trying emailing him to ask - he might have a list. His email

- I have uploaded the Dr. Who theme MP3 to this address for anyone who wants

- for the later Dr. Who's with Colin Baker in. This one is from the sort of
- Tom Baker and Peter Davidson era. Ripped straight from CD, so the quality is

- Also, I have a (rather poor quality but listenable) MP3 of the original

-
-
- I heard the Paul Hartnoll DJ Set on Radio 1's Marie-ann Hobbs show - a very
- eclectic selection from Themes to early house tracks. Interesting to listen
- to. He also played the full version of the John Cravens Newsround theme
- tune - as featured on Spare Parts Express on TMON which added a touch of

-
- All and anyone,
-
- back after a long Easter break and a big addendum to my collection...
-
- it started off well just before Easter with the red sleeve promo of
- Style and the cardboard promo of Times Fly.
-
- then, coming back to Norway, all the fun started for real...
-
- a new guy in d'n'b, DJ Teebee, from Bergen in Norway has just jumped
- onto the scene and as DJ mag said (although I'm a bit worried about
- all they say and take it with a pinch of salt, after all they
- criticised Bigpipe Style down the drains..) Teebee looks set to remain
- on the platform he's made for himself. Some 12" releases Droids and
- Coming of Shadows (yeah, the guy is heavily influenced by Babylon 5,
- but not in his style) and his newly released album (along with
- colleague in music-making, K (Kjetil Dale)) Black Science has so far
- been accepted with good acclaim by Norwegian critics. Now it remains
- to be seen what the UK critics will say and then what his leg in US
- will have to say about this music. It's dark, it's atmospheric and
- it's got some nice futuristic effects (maybe a bit spacy, laser
- effect). All in all, a very good album and as one who's never been
- much into d'n'b, this one certainly opened my horizon for getting some
- more. Even my forgot single of Watching Windows by Roni Size has now
- been played a bit more.
-
- Does anyone else find Aphex Twin's Windowlicker video remotely
- disgusting? creepy to say the least, cracking track though... :)
-
- If any of you read the magazine The Face btw, don't believe everything
- they say. I've heard they ranked a club (Skansen) in Oslo as the
- world's second best club at the moment and although such rankings
- usually mean diddly to me, I'd like to point out that although the
- resident djs keep dropping highly danceable deep house tracks and
- never for a moment let you off to catch your breath, the club is too
- small and cramped really to deserve such a ranking. The atmosphere
- there is great though, and if you ever go to Oslo (which I really
- think some of you should do if you like deep house, there's a bustling
- market for it here at the moment and it's been that way the last
- two-three years) then you should visit Skansen among other clubs.
- Again, the DJ mag with the recent Orbital interview has an article on
- all this stuff about clubbing in Oslo, so read it if your interest is
- spurred by all my blagging (blabbering, maybe)... ;)
-
- Anyway, d'n'b wasn't all I managed to do over the holidays,
- Biosphere's stuff kept popping up wherever I went and I managed to
- pick up the last Novelty Waves single with a remix by both LFO and by
- Bobby Bird, both are very good and certainly according to their
- reknowned style. Also, I got the japanese import of Best of Biosphere,
- just a collection of his hits really, but I've been looking for it for
- a long time. Just a little triumph I have to put in here.. ;)
-
- Coming back to Edinburgh, I found a lot of stuff I ordered from Action
- Records (lots of System 7 12"s and they're all pretty cool), as well
- as the Borobudur single AJ got for me in Japan, thanks! :) I regret to
- say that in all this chaos about you all getting MoN and stuff, I've
- still not managed to get my finger out and buy it. I've got a choice
- between having it on vinyl or cd, I wonder though, are any of the
- tracks dj-friendly or good for mixing? opinions?
-
- Also, I kept asking people for another d'n'b'ish track just before
- Easter and somebody suggested Nalin & Kane's Beachball to me, but I've
- now found it thanks to my flatmate. It was ETA's "Casualsub", and at
- this moment my playlist is that single and the Black Science album.
-
- Lastly, just to get a bit on to the topic of this mail's subject; this
- Peel gig, is it the replacement gig for the Mass club gig which was
- cancelled? or will that be held later?
-
- i better shut my mouth now...
