Maybe. I loved the originals before I got the variations, and at first I preferred the variations, mostly becaused I'd listened the originals to death. I like 'em more or less equally now, and I prefer both of them to Consumed, btu I prefer Artifakts over even them. >As for the Orbital content.... oops there was none :) sorry. likewise. Sorry. I think the second one is not as good as the first, but the "free" disc is pretty cool if you're into pumping trance type tracks. Also the spahn ranch remix of Gary Numan's "Cars" is pretty sweet. it's an okay buy at best. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Jan 1999 10:39:45 -0800 (PST) From: Mehul Parekh I <mpp001@rocketmail.com> Subject: (orbital) couple of questions Hi all: Two questions. First, what "style" of music does Roni Size's 'Reprazent' come under? Is it drum&bass (dont laugh at my lack of knowledge..i just done know)? I heard it and didn't like the album much at all. Same with Photek's 'Form & Function'. Are they both in the same genre of music? All this entails my first question. Second, anyone care to compare the following albums to maybe Orbital. Like if they are dancy, what kind of music it is. Are they like Photek or Roni Size? I dont know, so, please help me. 808 State: Gorgeous DJ Icey: Generate Thanks a lot. === The Mehul mpp001@rocketmail.com mpp001@drake.edu Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Same with >Photek's 'Form & Function'. Are they both in the same genre of music? >All this entails my first question. Roni Size makes THE drum & bass. Reprazent is not the name of the album, though. That's the name of the group made of Roni Size, Onallee, DJ Die, DJ Suv and DJ Krust. The album you're refering to is called "New Forms", and yes, it is drum & bass. There's also a remixed version of the album, called "Replica". Photek also makes great drum & bass. Form & Function is the perfect representation of his style... just listen to "Rings Around Saturn" (the same track is called "Pharaoh" on Logical Progression 1), and beside 'Consciousness' (featured on Platinum Breakz 1) it's one of my favourite Photek tracks. >Second, anyone care to compare the following albums to maybe Orbital. >Like if they are dancy, what kind of music it is. In fact, last summer, 808 state released a best of and I think Gorgeous is much better than the best of. I don't really like any of their other albums, but I think Gorgeous is great. It is really technoy, and a bit cheesy, but not what you are thinking. Old School techno is the best way to describe it for me at least. Nothing at all like Roni Size or ORbital. And Roni Size's album New Forms, is under Drum and bass. Later. Old >School techno is the best way to describe it for me at least. hmm me personally, I think their old Ex:El cd is much better than Gorgeous, and I absolutely LOVE their last cd Don Solaris. But that doesn't mean I think Gorgeous is bad, in fact I like it a lot too :) Their tracks are a mix of instrumental tracks and tracks with lyrics, sung various guest singers (including 2 icelandic singer ho ho ho ;) and could be described as sort of oldskool techno, with mellow beats and just nice to groove to. lots of funky synth lines etc. Don Solaris is probably the most the one which has most production work on it, some of the tracks represent a few ideas mixed into one bowl (shaken, not stirred). It took me a little time to get used to it, but today, I can honestly say that the number of tracks I like outnumbers the others bigtime (ie, 10-3 or so ;) compared to orbital... well, don't, they ain't alike imo :) they got their own style, which is just a good thing (we don't want them all to clone each other, right? :) Agust "Nemesis1" - aaj@centrum.is - ICQ: 1290264 - http://www.kosmic.org/~nemesis1 Free Your Mind - Remove the Brain :) # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Jan 1999 01:25:13 -0500 From: Morey Gamble <oracle@crossroadsmusic.com> Subject: [none] Okay, I've finally gotten a new e-mail account and am (hopefully) back for a while.
