Paul and Phil knew M.Hazel from their early days a few miles from Sevenoaks. They decided to remix the track with M.Hazel also lending a hand in the track. I say "remix" but its more of a complete reworking. It is this reason that they decided that it should be released under a different name. 3 people involved ... Hence...The Golden Girls. The re-re-release that we saw a few weeks back produced 2 12 inches - one has The Golden Girls ... ie Orbital/ M.Hazel reworking. The other tracks appear to be remixes of this track Orbital never knew that this was being re-re-released...and are slightly pissed off about it as its an old track. Orbital is certainly more than just bang-bang dancefloor techno, which would put it up with classical. Although not a really big fan of that band, I must say the fan'o'meter got a boost after seeing their concert at a music festival in Denmark this summer. I knew of some songs from before, so if you want a lot of the hits, go for "The Mix" album which has all the great, Eurobeat classics. "Die Mensch-Maschine" is also a good album, possibly similar to the recommendation given of "Radioactivity" as it seems a bit minimal too, but has a lot of good songs, "Robots" and "The Model" at least. The latter is not on the "The Mix" album so that's the only disadvantage about that album, but it's got "Pocket Calculator" and "Radioactivity" which are both great. ...especially if you've experienced "Pocket Calculator" as an encore at a Kraftwerk concert. ;) hope it helps .eof? +------------------------------------------------------------------+ "Couldn't this lengthy therapy be replaced by tranquilizing drugs" - Trym "halcyons@hotmail.com" - Biosphere "The Tranquilizer" +------------------------------------------------------------------+ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Sep 1998 10:43:34 PDT From: "Trym Asserson" <halcyons@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: (orbital) hiya your words were ... >now for my newbie type qs! I was afraid I was too late. I was introduced to techno by my friend a couple of years ago, and first heard/saw Orbital on an American show on MTV called Amp. This was the Box, which is now my most favourite song (ever). I bought In Sides (the American, 2 CD version), immediately, and recently bought the Green CD (American Version). I am in love with techno because ever since I was a little kid, all I would do is come up with strange beats and melodies and tap them out on my desk, or whatever. I would like to know what I am missing here in the States, and also if anyone on the list lives here. Also, I am interested in mixing things on my own? How does one go about starting something like that, and how much money does it take. Nothing big, just the cheapest stuff money can buy.
