    Actually, when I went to see them, I was there mainly to see BT, who was opening
for them. While his (extremely short) set was really good, they just put on a show.
It wasn't just the music, it was the vibe. The whole club was rocking, totally into
it. I'd say at least half the people there had no idea who they had come to see, and
it looked like every one of them was converted that night. The whole place was
bouncing.    I personally don't listen to CM _or_ Fatboy Slim very often at all (no
need when you can just turn on the tv anytime and hear busy child), but there is (at
least as far as I'm concerned) a time and a place for both..

give him credit for being a bit creative, but the vocals were not too
wonderful... and the video was like watching a long MTV commercial.

Yea I agree, 'Simple Man' is very under par for Josh Wink -
I didn't see it on MTV, but I bought the single. Pretty much
sucks, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone - although if you are
big dnb fan there is a remix on it by Optical which is pretty
good :)

It's also in the Lost In Space movie.  This camera trick has definitely
improved since the MBM video; there's some jumpiness in between the
individual camera images --not like in today's commercials.  I first
remember seeing this smoother version in the Lost In Space television
previews of the movie so I'm thinking the process was improved by the
film's special effects budget and then subsequently used in the other
commercials (kinda like how the liquid metal effect was used after they
invented it in Terminator 2)

thought that I'd mention a new CD thats coming out called Hellspawn.  This
will be a merging of Death Metal Bands with Digital Hard Core and Gabber

    I'm with you on this one.. The song is _okay_ musically, but nothing
spectacular. For Josh wink, I think it rates pretty high. I've never been even
remotely impressed with his songwriting skills. Higher State is a fun slice of
acid insanity, but songs like 'are you there' and 'don't laugh' are just
ridiculous. The video for Simple Man was pretty amusing, though..

    What kind of jungle was it? Dark, hard, jazzy? I can give you tons of
suggestions if you can narrow it down a bit.. here's a few:

Artists:

Roni Size/Reprazent - New Forms - maybe the best drum & bass album ever.
jazz/hip-hop/r&b/jungle fusion.
Photek - Modus Operandi - minimal, sparse, pretty dark, some of the most
impressive drum programming you'll hear.
Boymerang - Balance of the Force - closer to photek than anything else, but with
more emotion.
Spring Heel Jack - 68 Million Shades - unlike anything else, lots off
jazz/classical samples/sounds, very interesting.
Adam F - Colours - some jazzy, some dark, some both. not the best as a whole,
but it has a coupla amazing songs.
Alex Reece - So Far - Jazz-step distilled down to it's essence. a little cheesy
at times, but again, has some classics.
Goldie - Timeless - It's the one everybody knows - Some of it's crap, some of
it's brilliant. (seems to be a trend in jungle)
John B - Visions - I just got this one, and it's pretty groovy. 2 disks
(Synthetic and Organic)

Compilations:

Logical Progression  - LTJ Bukem & Co. - chilled out classics, one disc mixed,
one unmixed. Get vol. 1 &2. (3 is out but i won't get to hear it until later
this afternoon when i go by FedEx to pick mine up) (ltj bukem, blame, pfm,
peshay, intense(
Torque - No U-Turn - Dark, scary, hard, you name it. Tech-Step galore. (ed rush,
nico, dj trace)
Platinum Breaks - Metalheadz - Vol 1 is nothing but classics. It has alex reece,
photek, goldie, adam f. Vol. 2 is much the same, but is more of the new
metalheadz crowd (source direct, lemon d, dillinja)
V Classic - dark and jazzy. (roni size, dj krust, dillinja, goldie, scorpio, and
more) (2 volumes, the best songs on both volumes are by dj krust)
Music Box - early incarnation of the reprazent crew - dj krust, roni size, dj
die, dj suv, bill riley, scorpio. chilled out, jazzy, pretty minimal.

Well,
        Although none of you probably care about my opinion, I always
have thought that Cook produced great commercial dance. When I first
heard it, I loved the renegade master remix - really unintelligent, well
produced big beat / house .
        I thought he played a pretty good DJ set at Glastonbury, and
althought the crowd was well up for it anyway, the place was certainly
lively. I had a good time. I think it would be fair to say that everyone
else did as well. Nuff said.

Oooooohhhh yes!

Anything from Liquid sky Records is GOOD try...

This is Jungle Sky 1: Excellent, not the "scary" more "drum n'bass" Jungle,
but more samples and voices.  The best Jungle CD I own.

This is Jungle Sky II: Pretty good, a little more "drum n'bass" than
Jungle.  Still lots of samples though

I (heart) NY Jungle: Okay but I wouldn't recomend it that much.

This is Jungle Sky IV: Very good, some samles some more "drum n'bass"
stuff.  Ali Rocks is a very cool blend of Citar and jungle.

This is Jungle Sky V:  VERY good drum n'bass.  Not as many samples,
concentrates more of the drums.  The 1.8.7 tracks and the stuff from
Soulslinger is good

Yellow Note: We are not the beatles:  It should be easy to find this one
and it's pretty good.  Drum n'bass with a hinmt of some ambient influence.

1.8.7 when worlds collide: Don't have it yet but it's on the way!

DJ Soulslinger: Don't believe: Very good Album...

DJ Soulslinger: The Abducted Remixes:  VERY good if you can find it.

That's all Liquid Sky stuff.  If you have trouble finding it, or want some
more info, or what the cases look like go to http://www.forcedexposure.com
and search for label "Jungle Sky".

Other than that stuff, try, I think it's called "Jungle: The Sound of the
Underground".  Good comp...some stuff from Jungle Sky 1.  You might also
check out any T-Power albums you can find.  He's on JS a lot...I don't have
any albums but I am ordering one that I found.

If you want more I can look through my collection and see what else I have.
 Jungle Sky is a personal favorite in case you can't tell!  =3D]

Hey, I'm back from europe now, and by chance I saw what massive attack
is up to, they're touring europe with Hooverphonic as their opening
act... anybody heard of them guys? trip hop sort of band, their first
album is really great, and their second I picked up on my trip. But
without babbling, that's what they're up to.

    Hmm, for the insane breaks and dark sounding, I'd say go with the no u-turn
stuff. The Torque compilation, and anything by Ed Rush, Fierce, Nico, or DJ
Trace. Hmm, also try the 'Aphrodite Recordings' mix CD. You can get all this
stuff at Breakbeat Science (www.breakbeatscience.com) For Jazzy stuff, look for
EZ Rollers (probably vinyl only) and check out V Classic volume 1 (Hell, there's
a song on there called 'It's Jazzy', and another one called 'It's a Jazz
Thing'..)

    Another place you (and everyone else) might be interested in checking out is
'www.cductive.com'. They have a pretty nice selection of dance music, carefully
categorized and available for purchase on a song by song basis. You pick the
songs and they make the CD for you. They have RealAudio samples of everything
they have available. The prices are $4.99 for the first song, and $1.00 a song
after that, plus they have 8-10 'free' songs in each style that you don't even
have to pay for.

I'm a long time Orbital fan, but a much newer list-serve guy.  Can anyone tell
me about the Event Horizon soundtrack?  Is it completely written by the
Orbital boys or were any other writers/producers involved?  Are the tracks
short bits or long songs?

Also, I see lots of hype about Autechre and Rabbit in the Moon...but I know
nothing of them.  Are they comparable to the brilliant sound of Orbital?

 The Event Horizon soundtrack was done by Orbital working with Michael Kamen.
 Kamen has done soundtracks on dozens of movies. The EH soundtrack is a bit
 strange, their are only 4 tranks on the CD, but they are all long, and
 contain the 'chapters' of the movie. There were only a few tracks that sound
 definatly like Orbital, and the sound is very dark, much like the movie, but
 all in all, it was a worthy purchase.

 Autechre is another one of my favorites, but I still think Orbital is much
 better. Rabbit in the Moon I have heard very little from, I only have a
 couple of remix tracks from them on compilation CD's, but what I have heard
 is pretty cool.

They are not d'n'b at all... usually their style is called trip hop.
It's (very) loosely a combination of hip hop and more electronic styles.
Their lastest (Mezzanine) had a lot of rock/pop (?) influence in it too.
Well, maybe not rock but whatever it was I really didn't like the album.
Not enough hip hop and electronic styles in it, IMHO. At least not
enough for me to like it :)
