I' haven't heard much of the work of the artists on it, except for AFX and Jimi Tenor, who I *love*, but good things had been said on this list about some of the others, mostly Boards of Canada and Autechre, so I got it to see what they were like as well as to sample the rest of the Warp artists work. The only tracks I didn't like were the last few which were a bit hard for my mellow tastes. How do the tracks on the CD relate to the other works of the artists? I've heard Autechre have a hard sound in some tracks...? Don't get me wrong, I like 'em, I just thought the part of the set on tv was a bit pedestrian. I expected a bit more of them, it felt like you were waiting forever for something to happen all the time. I guess the atmosphere isn't the same at home as it is in a tent covered with shit though! Ahh..Mud Hello All, I recently awoken from a festival induced slumber of about 18 hours. Nice. And I still feel tired. For those who were there.. did you go to the Herbal High Tent?. *Wow*. Banging hard house and techno for the masses. Superb atmosphere. And many Mitsubishi's in sight. ;-) A quick review : Underworld - Good set, although took a long time to get the crowd moving (or was it just that everyone was stuck in the mud?). Mr Hyde was well into Moon-Monkey mode and appeared to be under the influence of much more than "Lager Lager Lager". Good set. Bentley Rythmn Ace - Excellent. Great set, great crowd reception, despite the early hour. Banco de Gaia - er.. didn't show. Bastards. Fatboy Slim - Very popular set, with the boy Cook whipping the crowd up for more. Apparently he had to be dragged off the decks. Great start, great finish - I missed the middle - obtaining more of that Pear Cider. Very nice. Auteche - Missed them.. Slept through it. They were on at lunch time. Who ever scheduled that needs their head examined. Robbie Williams - Great laugh. Slagged off Take That et al all the way through, and did a amusing punk version of Back for Good. Crowd loved it. Tony Bennett - Wicked. Made listening to all those old records worthwhile. Apparently System 7 played as well, but it was raining heavily at the time, and the mud made it a real struggle to get anywhere. Good festival, although my tent is in tatters and my clothes all have a brown tinge. And try dancing in rubber boots. And if so, what are the tracks? And last, I spotted another 'The Box' today. Anyone want? $11.99 + 5% tax + s/h (if you want it). Let me know soon. Maybe someone in Des Moines, IA will take it:)...that would be a dream come true, a Orbital fan in my town except for me. I think I keep Orbital alive in my town. Over and out. I noticed this last week but put off mentioning it until now... Last week, while reading the current issue of Interface Magazine (version 12), I noticed an ad in the inside cover for a new product by Emu systems called OrbitV2 featuring none other than the Hartnolls themselves. The headline sez: Music In Technology and has a pic of them in the backround while a a pic of the Orbit in the foreground. The first paragraph sez and I quote: "Paul and Phil Hartnol of Orbital have taken their electronica-pop music in and out of this world with Orbit. We couldnt think of a more perfect match of sound and talent. With over 600 of the earths most cutting edge samples and loads of new rhythmic features, Orbit is the perfect sound module for dance and electronica music." Also folks, For those of you with MTV US that watch it, you may have noticed a commercial that they have been running in advertisment for their July 4th showing of sexually explicit videos. In that commercial, the announcer is talking about being all-american, and they show clips of parks, etc. In these clips, there is a bit from the video for Lush with a couple of old ladies enjoying some ice cream...Not really exciting, but what is lately? Another item: Have any of you seen the 187 Lockdown video for a little crap song they like to call "Kung Fu". Well, the director of the vid is a man named Steve Price. Could our famed Orbital info-guru have gotten so frustrated with the scene that he has stooped to directing crappy Speed Garage videos? Lets hope not. :) .MatthewFord. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Jul 1998 01:42:00 -0700 From: "Dr. Killpatient" <rfu@stitch.com> Subject: Re: Message Bounce: Re: (orbital) Hartnolls in an Ad... Yes, and I beleive they endorsed that product when the first one came out as well...which is one reason I ran out and got one right away! And yes, it is a great piece of gear for Orbital influenced sounding music! paul > > > > dxford@earthlink.net wrote: > > > > > > I noticed this last week but put off mentioning it until now... > > > > > > Last week, while reading the current issue of Interface Magazine > > > (version 12), I noticed an ad in the inside cover for a new product by > > > Emu systems called OrbitV2 featuring none other than the Hartnolls > > > themselves. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Jul 1998 13:38:54 -0400 From: Morey Gamble <gandalf@wnc.com> Subject: Re: (orbital) Hartnolls in an Ad... dxford@earthlink.net wrote: > I noticed this last week but put off mentioning it until now... > > Last week, while reading the current issue of Interface Magazine > (version 12), I noticed an ad in the inside cover for a new product by > Emu systems called OrbitV2 featuring none other than the Hartnolls > themselves. > The headline sez: Music In Technology and has a pic of them in the > backround while a a pic of the Orbit in the foreground. I never really thought the Orbit would be that great a synth module, least of all the kind orbital would be using.. I'm sure it has some good sounds, as sampling technology has gotten quite impressive, but I can't imagine it having more than very limited uses to anyone who already has a good deal of synth gear. Plus, I have something of a personal vendetta against e-mu systems over some equipment i purchased from them last year.. - -Morey # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 01:42:07 -0700 From: "morpheus" <morpheus@axionet.com> Subject: (orbital) A night with Carl Cox Hey, here's an interesting party review for all of yah I have to say one thing, CARL COX is AMAZING. That entire night was amazing. I danced extremely hard that night and I'm still aching from it (twas Tuesday night). If any of you get a chance, check Grant Plant, a DJ from LA off of Phatt Phunk Records and Skylab 2000, also off of Phatt Phunk Records. They are both amazing. Grant Plant is the most hype and exciting DJ that I have ever seen. He was grooven and jumping all around while spinning some superb music. He did some bizare stuff too. Spun a beat from an Orbital song (still can't remember which one, although it's off of brown or green) then went into an amazing remix of Born Slippy and then into Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd and then mixed that into some more house music. What a set. Skylab played mostly breakbeat stuff which I wasn't expecting. And Carl Cox, he is just the man. He's a presence of amazing DJing skills and musical talent. I didn't recognize anything that he was spinning, except he used the tune from Faithless' Insomnia. I didn't watch his entire set since he started at 5:00 am and i had been dancing since 12:00. I did however catch almost two hours of his set.
