Six More Spells of Carthasana
Note that I de-munckinized Delay Contigency (I miss typed it,
thanks to Mike M. (moonlick@......)) for bringing it to my attention.
*************************************************************************
Greetings all:
It seems that more than a few people enjoyed a glimpse into LEGEND
OF DARK CROWN's magic spells. The world of Carthasana has many more
spells though. So, in gratitude for your comments I present six more
spells from the World of Carthasana, as they were orginally listed in the
mystical tomes maintained by the Priesthood of Pektos, Lord of Magic and
Knowledge.
I welcome your comments, as they strengthen us all in our
exploration of the greatest frontier of all, the human imagination.
A note on spells: Those marked with a * are wild magic. Those marked
with a @ are metamagical, the opposition of wild magic (see previous
post).
Clear Mind (Alteration)@
Level: 1
Range: 0
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Instantaneous
Casting Time: 1 turn
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None
This spell clears the caster's mind and prepares him to memorize as if he
had rested eight hours. The material component is a 200 gp value gem
(Yes it is consumed by the spell, making it's casting rare.)
Material Component Removal I (Alteration)@
Level: 2
Range: 0
Components: V, S
Duration: 5 rounds
Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: The Caster
Saving Throw: None
This spell offsets the need for material component(s) whose value is less
than 1 gold piece. The spell cannot function simualtaneously with
Vocalize (Wizard's Handbook.) Any spell whose material component(s)
exceeds 1 gold will fail.
Fireball Snuff (Abjuration)
Level: 3
Range: 1
Components: V, S
Duration: 5 rounds
Casting Time: 1
Area of Effect: 20' radius around caster
Saving Throw: None
On Carthasana, as elsewhere, Fireball is an all time favorite amoungst
the mass destruction spells. Due to its enourmous popularity in mage
duels someone (exactly who is forgotten) developed this spell to stop it.
Fireball and Yarenic's Flame Pulse, and only those two spells, will
not operate within the radius of this spell for its duration. It's low
casting time (1 to fireball's 3) allows the caster to check spellcraft
proficiency and if successful at the check and if he wins initiative, he
can cast this spell up in time to counter fireball.
If a fireball detonates outside the area of this spell it will not
enter it's radius BUT will still occupy it's normal volumne.
This spell has absolutely no effect on any other fire-based spells.
Detonate (Evocation)@
Level: 4
Range: 60 yards + 10 yards / caster level
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Instantaneous
Casting Time: 4
Area of Effect: Variable
Saving Throw: Neg.
This spell quite simply detonates a memorized spell centered on the
caster who had it memorized. It has no direct effect on non - spell
user's whatsoever. The spell so detonated is totally random unless the
mage is somehow made aware, for certain, that a caster has a specific
spell memorized (If he does he can detonate it). The offensive spell is
obvious, (One needn't dwell on the results of being hit by your own
fireball!) but there are defensive uses. It is not unusual for a cleric
to tell a mage that he/she has memorized a cure spell so that the mage
can use this spell to detonate it later if the cleric is indisposed to
casting it. The material component is smoke powder.
There are two other circumstances which affect this spell. First,
it NEVER affects someone who is unconcious due to wounds (a sleeping
victim is permissable). Second, if the caster knows the target's true
name the save is not allowed.
Delay Contingency (Alteration, Evocation)@
Level: 4
Range: 0
Components: V, S
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 4
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None
By means of this spell the caster can delay the detonation of one spell
at a time any number of rounds he wishes up to the number of levels he
possesses. The level of spell so delayed is a funcion of his level as
follows
Caster Level Spell Level
7th 1st
9th 2nd
12th 3rd
15th 4th*
*Maximum level of Spell so affected. Multiclass Priest/Mages cannot
delay their priest spells.
Chaos Wish (Conjuration/Summoning)*
Level: 9
Range: Special*
Components: V
Duration: Special*
Casting Time: Special*
Area of Effect: Special*
Saving Throw: None (usually)
*Perhaps unpredictable is a better term.
The most dangerous spell in existance, with the possible exception
of Telsindra's Magic Burst, Chaos Wish comes with good news and bad news:
The good news - casting the spell will not USUALLY age you
The bad news - wording of the spell is inconsequential, it will do what
it wants when it is cast
Gods help the fool who casts this spell.
