Scrub's log.
The Griffin
Angus Ragnarok, Scrub
16th of May, 1651
I have been officially accepted as a crewman on board the Griffin, whose
captain is a man answering to the name, Captain Jack. This will be my first
voyage on the Ether and I must admit to some uncertainty about the prospect.
Any ship that stays afloat because of the efforts of a mage will always stay
rather low in my esteem but, I have no other options for now.
Commander's log.
The Griffin
Angus Ragnarok, Commander
18th of December, 1654
The Commander it seems, had a bit of a misunderstanding with Captain Jack and
has been forced into an early retirement. The Captain has noted my skills
with the ship over the years and has announced today that I will be the
Commander of the Griffin from this time forward. Over the years, I have
reconcilled *some* of my prejudices for the floater. He's a nice lad
really... At any rate, we'll be returning to Earth shortly and there pick
up the arch-bishop and some of his goons to go colonize another world.
Should be interesting.
15th of January, 1655
I hate tourists! Two days away from port and the arch-bishop still expects us
to show up for daily mass. I don't know how long I'll be able to keep Yvon
T'Avaler away from him...
3rd of February, 1655
There's a big reception tonight. A Bard will be singing and the arch-bishop
will be there accompanied by his lackeys and his guardsman. Unexpected
surprise: we have a stow-away dancer in the crew.
In the midst of the party, a cloud of energy strikes the Griffin and in
the ensuing confusion, it is discovered that many crewmembers are
vaporized. Among them, our mage Theodore Wright and Captain Jack. As
honorary captain, I led the ship to the planet Beta Pictoris. (barely) Where
we are forced to crash land and all hands are lost save for the Bard:Bart
Wilton, the bishop's guardsman: Lancefear, an acolyte: Richard the
Benevolent and a stow-away mage with an attitude and a crow: Minoglet and
Xavier. The only useful item found in the debris was the Griffin's log.
Adventurer's log.
Beta Pictoris
Angus Ragnarok, Stranded
3rd of February, 1655
As we walked away from the torn husk of the Griffin and into the nearby
forest, we were attacked by some twenty, short, savages. Our dancer-mage,
Minoglet, created some grease under the feet of the enemy and many slipped
into confusion. Meanwhile, Lancefear, Bart and I were doing our best
against these foes despite their superior numbers. Lance swung his sword and
slew one while Bart was ineffectively using his daggers on another. I was
not much better than Bart in using my three-pronged argument against one.
Soon, they had us surrounded and we were forced to surrender (for now).
Some time later, as they led us deeper in the woods, we were saved by
'dwarves' whatever they are... They resembled the savages with the
exception that they
Minoglet made quick work of one savage with her dagger while I used my
trident on another and convinced him not to bother us anymore. Lance and Bart
also took care of their share and we were soon able to escape although one
of my opponents managed to get in a lucky shot. Fortunately, his sword slid
along one of my ribs without penetrating deeper or even cracking the bone.
Once we arrived at a dwarven keep, we were informed that the poor
creatures had misplaced a certain book. We imediately took up a quest to
find their book which led us to an evil wizard in a town of crack-pots. We
came in through the back door, as I always do in the face of enemy
fortresses. In the town, we met the wizard who gave us some riddles to
untangle. Half of the people in the town were sick from a disease that
causes liars and honest men to become opposite what they normally are. This
means that an honest man who gets sick becomes for all intents and
purposes, a liar. Our task was to determine who was sick and what each man
was originally. In exchange for this service, the evil wizard, Norak, would
return the book.
After we had finished with the riddles, we made battle with the traiterous
wizard and two guards that had just come in. Norak's first act was to
create a wall of fog which hampered me in the use of my trident.
Furthermore, after having tried and failed to shishkabob Norak, one of the
guards hit me on the head with his sword. Only my faithful helm saved me
but nonetheless, the blow stunned me and I fell uncouncious and dying to
the ground. Bart quickly bandaged me and Richard healed my wound.
Meanwhile, Lancefear had struck Norak a glancing blow and Minoglet created
more of her magical grease to hinder the guards. In the confusion caused by
fog and grease, Norak fled through a trap door and the rest of the party
made short work of the guards while I regained some strength.
Unfortunately, at one point in the battle, Bart died of natural causes. His
heart quite naturally stopped after a sword sliced through his chest...
May he live out a glorious after-life in Valhalla!
Once I had recovered, we followed Norak down into his lair. Lancefear
jumped down into the trapdoor where Norak escaped, slid down a while and
was barely able to stop his skid in time to avoid falling into a pool of
acid. The rope Norak had used to swing to the other side and safety lay
limp between the two edges seperated by the acid. Fortunately for the
knight, Xavier flew down and brought him the rope, so that the brave
lad could swing to the other side. The rest of the party followed and on
that fateful ledge, we incapacitated Norak. After this we interrogated his
guards by hanging them from the feet and lowering them down towards the
acid only to discover that the gnats didn't speak our language. We pulled
them back up and re-incapacitated them for causing all this trouble.
Afterwards, we searched the tower and found Norak's spellbook and the Tome
the dwarves wanted. We the went back to return the volume to the dwarves.
Unfortunetly, we forgot to kill Norak before leaving.
