  21. <p>The Honourable Mrs. Sophie Leung, Chairperson of the WomenÆs Commission
  22. will explain the goals and accomplishments of the members of the WomenÆs
  23. Commission in this year to the members and guests of the Hong Kong Association
  24. of Business and Professional Women.
  25. <p><b><font color="#3333FF">The Honourable Mrs. Sophie LEUNG Lau Yau Fun,
  26. SBS JP</font></b>
  27. <br>Mrs. Leung was appointed by the HKSAR Government as the Chairperson
  28. of the newly established WomenÆs Commission in early 2001. Mrs. Leung has
  29. contributed not only to promoting the well being and interests of women
  30. in Hong Kong, but also to strengthening linkages with womenÆs organizations
  31. overseas to help assure Hong KongÆs standing as a world class city.
  32. <p>A director since the 1970s of a number of large textile conglomerates
  33. in Hong Kong, Mrs Leung is also a member of several key government and
  34. non-government organisations and institutes that support and further the
  35. interests of the textile and garment industry.  For many years, she
  36. has been playing a very active role on the Textiles Advisory Board chaired
  37. by the Secretary for Trade and Industry.  She has also been a Director
  38. of Textile Council since its incorporation in 1991.
  39. <p>Mrs Leung is widely recognised for her public service contributions
  40. to the development and implementation of Hong Kong health care system. 
  41. She has served as a member of the Hospital Authority since its establishment
  42. in 1990 and on a number of its constituent committees.  At various
  43. times she chaired its New Territories Regional Advisory Committees and
  44. served as a trustee of the Hospital Authority Charitable Foundation.
  45. <p>Mrs Leung is also the founder and chairperson of the Young Entrepreneurs
  46. Development Council Limited (ôYDCö), a private, non-profit making organisation
  47. that seeks to cultivate entrepreneurial and leadership qualities and skills
  48. in Hong Kong, particularly among young people.  She is a member of
  49. the Law Reform Commission of Hong Kong and of the Legislative Council.
