  1. Welcome to the PowerPoint Viewer and Translator.  
  2. The PowerPoint Viewer will run on Windows 3.1 and on
  3. Windows 95.
  4. It will allow you to view PowerPoint files
  5. created and saved in PowerPoint for 
  6. Windows versions 2.0 -4.0, PowerPoint for 
  7. Windows 95 v. 7.0 or PowerPoint for Macintosh 
  8. versions 3.0-4.0.
  9.  
  10. In addition, this disk contains a translator for
  11. PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows 3.1 customers who may want
  12. to open and edit files created in PowerPoint for 
  13. Windows 95.  The setup instructions below cover both
  14. the PowerPoint Viewer and Translator.
  15.  
  16. Please feel free to copy and distribute the PowerPoint 
  17. Viewer and Translator floppy disk that you create by following 
  18. the instructions below.

  29. Creating a PowerPoint Viewer floppy disk:
  30.  
  31. 1.  Make sure you have a blank 3.5" formatted floppy 
  32. disk in your floppy disk drive.
  33. 2.  In the Windows 95 Explorer, or Windows 3.1 
  34. File Manager, open the folder in this directory called 
  35. PPView.
  36. 3.  Select all the files in the Viewdisk directory 
  37. and copy them onto the floppy disk.
  38.  
  39. You now have a PowerPoint Viewer disk that you can 
  40. use to install the PowerPoint Viewer on any Windows 3.1
  41. or Windows 95 system.

  43. Installing the PowerPoint Viewer
  44.  
  45. 1.  Insert the PowerPoint Viewer
  46. floppy disk you created into drive A
  47. 2.  On Windows 95, click the Start button and click Run.
  48. On Windows NT or Windows 3.1 Program Manager, 
  49. click the File menu and select Run.
  50. 3.  Type a:\vsetup.exe and press ENTER.
  51. 4.  A dialog will appear asking if you want to
  52. install the Viewer or the Translator.  Select the
  53. option you wish to install and click OK.

  55. The PowerPoint Viewer and/or Translator will be 
  56. installed on your computer.

  58. To install the Viewer directly from the CD:
  59.  
  60. 1.  Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive (Drive D).
  61. 2.  In Windows 95, click the Start button and click Run
  62. 3.  Type d:\PPView\Viewdisk\vsetup.exe and press ENTER.
  63. 4.  A dialog will appear asking if you want to
  64. install the Viewer or the Translator.  Select the
  65. option you wish to install and click OK.

  67. The PowerPoint Viewer and/or Translator will be installed
  68. on your computer.

  71. Readme Notes about the PowerPoint Viewer
  72.  
  73. This PowerPoint Viewer is a 16-bit application 
  74. based on the PowerPoint 4.0 Viewer.  While it 
  75. runs on either Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 and 
  76. opens files from any current or previous version of
  77. PowerPoint, there are a few features of PowerPoint for 
  78. Windows 95 it does not support.  We suggest you run
  79. through your file using the Viewer and make any 
  80. adjustments you might wish to make prior to your actual
  81. presentation.

  83. *  Embedded Fonts.  If you save a file with embedded fonts
  84. in PowerPoint for Windows 95, the Viewer will not 
  85. display those fonts unless the font is available on the
  86. system on which you are viewing the file.  You may want
  87. to check that the  fonts in your presentation are 
  88. installed on the system, especially if you are using
  89. an unusual font in your presentation.
  90.  
  91. *  Gradient fills.  PowerPoint for Windows 95 has 
  92. support for two color shaded fills.  The PowerPoint Viewer
  93. will display those fills as a single color to black 
  94. gradient fill.
  95.  
  96. *  Semi-transparent fills and shadows.  The Viewer will
  97. display the appropriate solid color fill or shadow.
  98.  
  99. *  Textured fills.  Will fill the object with the default
  100. color scheme color.
  101.  
  102. *  Background textures.  No background is displayed.
  103.  
  104. *  Extended Animation Effects.  If you applied bulleted
  105. list text builds, they will be displayed.  Other types
  106. of builds are ignored.
  107.  
  108. *  Interactive settings.  Interactive settings are 
  109. not available in the Viewer.
