  7. The FIRST Secretariat maintains a publicly-available computer
  8. system located on the Internet for distributing information about
  9. FIRST and FIRST member teams.  The name and address of the system
  10. is

  12.           first.org  (129.6.54.11)
  13.  
  14. This system contains information including the following:
  15.  
  16.          FIRST general information,
  17.          Membership information and forms,
  18.          FIRST Operational Framework,
  19.          Other procedures and related information, and
  20.          Information about FIRST members.
  21.  
  22. The intent of the system is two-fold: to make information about
  23. FIRST easily available to a wide audience, and to provide a
  24. directory service for individuals who need to contact an incident
  25. handling team.

  27. Information on the system is available via the following methods:
  28.  
  29.          anonymous ftp
  30.          electronic mail (SMTP)
  31.          gopher
  32.  
  33. The system is also available via dial-up through the National
  34. Institutes of Standard Computer Security BBS.

  36. Anonymous ftp
  37.  
  38. To access the system via anonymous ftp, use the following:

  40.      ftp first.org
  41.  
  42. Use username anonymous, and use your e-mail address as the
  43. password.  All FIRST files are located in the directories under
  44. /pub/first.

  47. Electronic Mail (SMTP)
  48.  
  49. To retrieve files via electronic mail, send to the following
  50. address:
  51.      docserver@first.org
  52.  
  53. No subject line is required.  To retrieve an index of all files
  54. available, send the following message (in lower case):
  55.  
  56.      send first-index
  57.  
  58. To then retrieve files, send the following message
  59.  
  60.      send filename
  61.  
  62. where filename is the name of the file you wish to retrieve.  The
  63. commands are all lower case and filenames are case-sensitive. 
  64. Along with the requested file, the document server will return a
  65. status message with instructions on how to obtain more help and
  66. information.

  69. Gopher
  70.  
  71. To retrieve information via gopher, one can either connect to the
  72. FIRST gopher server via telnet or connect via another gopher
  73. client.  To connect via telnet, use the following:

  75.      telnet gopher.first.org
  76.  
  77. To connect via a gopher client, use
  78.  
  79.      gopher gopher.first.org
  80.  
  81. The FIRST gopher server uses the (default) TCP/IP port 70.  Files
  82. can be retrieved through gopher using ftp or e-mail.

  85. Computer Security BBS
  86.  
  87. The National Institute of Standards and Technology maintains a
  88. publicly-available Computer Security BBS that contains information
  89. on FIRST.  To connect to this BBS, set your communications
  90. parameters to no parity, 8 bit characters, 1 stop bit, and any BPS
  91. rate between 300 and 9600.  Dial (301) 948-5717 for 2400 BPS
  92. access, or (301) 948-5140 for 9600 BPS access.  Follow instructions
  93. on the screen for registering, viewing, and downloading files.
