  24. rec.games.roguelike.announce is a moderated newsgroup for informational
  25. posts and announcements about any roguelike game, including (but not
  26. limited to) Rogue, Nethack, Moria, Angband, and Adom.  Since it is a
  27. moderated group, all postings will be sent to a moderator for approval
  28. before posting; this means that posts won't show up immediately after you
  29. post them.  Please allow a day or two for your post to show up.

  31. The charter for the group is:

  33. | rec.games.roguelike.announce is a forum for postings of FAQ lists,
  34. | announcements of new patches and versions of existing games, postings of
  35. | small "official" patches, and announcements of new rogue-style
  36. | games. Every posting to this group would be cross-posted to the most
  37. | appropriate other rec.games.roguelike group, and follows-up would be
  38. | directed to that group.  The moderator could, at his/her discretion,
  39. | change the subject line of postings (esp. to add the word [SPOILERS]
  40. | where appropriate).

  42. Announcements of new ftp or web sites related to roguelike games are also
  43. appropriate and welcome.  In these days of ubiquitous ftp and web access,
  44. pointers to where patches can be retrieved from are probably better than
  45. posting actual patches.

  47. Most posts to rec.games.roguelike.announce will be crossposted to two
  48. newsgroups, it and the other most appropriate group in the
  49. rec.games.roguelike.* hierarchy.  Followups will be directed to that other
  50. group as mentioned in the charter.  Please choose your crossposting
  51. appropriately to save work for the moderator.

  53. Any post containing spoilers should note that in the subject header with a
  54. tag of "[SPOILERS]".  Please also try to ensure that no spoilers occur in
  55. the first screen of text and that the body of the article also warns about
  56. spoilers.  The moderator will try to catch unmarked spoilers and mark
  57. them, but may not be able to catch everything; please be careful not to
  58. accidentally spoil a game for someone else.

  60. All postings to rec.games.roguelike.announce (except for obvious spam)
  61. will either be approved or will receive a response explaining why they
  62. were not approved.  Note, however, that if you munge your e-mail address
  63. in a way that the moderator cannot decipher it, there may be no way for
  64. the response to reach you.  If you post to the group and neither receive
  65. a response nor see your post show up within about three days, please
  66. contact the moderator to see if there's a problem.  It's possible that
  67. your site doesn't have the group correctly configured.

  71. | The moderator will at all times be free to appoint a backup-moderator
  72. | and/or a replacement if he or she must leave the post.  Such an
  73. | appointment must be announced on rec.games.roguelike.announce.  If it
  74. | becomes necessary to replace the moderator, this could be done with a
  75. | public vote, announced on news.announce.newgroups (and crossposted to
  76. | all the rec.games.roguelike groups).  A two-thirds vote would be
  77. | necessary to replace the moderator.  [It is possible that the moderator
  78. | of news.announce.newgroups, group-advice, and such people will come up
  79. | with an "official" way to replace a moderator; in such a case, their
  80. | approved method would take precedence over this one.]
