  9. The Decode Shell Extension v4.6 adds a Decode menu item to your
  10. Windows Explorer context menu (right mouse button menu) and File
  11. menu.

  15. Decode Shell Extension is compatible with Windows 95/98/ME NT/2000/XP.

  17. 95/98 Users: If you have a brand new OS installation please visit
  18. the Windows Update site and install the latest updates from
  19. Microsoft. Our apps use versions of some windows OS dlls that were
  20. updated by Microsoft from the original releases of 95 & 98.

  22. NT 4 Users: Although not absolutely required, we suggest you have
  23. SP 6 installed.

  26. To install Decode Shell Extension, follow the instructions below.

  28. We prefer you install via our self-installer because the installer
  29. sets up an uninstall function in Control Panel, Add-Remove
  30. Programs. If you prefer a zip file you can download one from our
  31. web site. Visit http://www.searchandreplace.com/otsoft.htm
  32. for a download link.

  34. See 'FileList.txt' for a description of the files installed. All files
  35. are put in the path of your choice. c:\tools\Decext is the suggested 
  36. but you can change this if you like.

  40. Installation Instructions for Windows 95/98/ME NT/2000/XP
  41. ----------------------------------------------------------

  43. 1. Exit all programs running on your desktop. AOL and Compuserve
  44. 2000 users: This means you!!!  You cannot cheat the Decode Shell
  45. Extension and try to force it to work within AOL or Compuserve
  46. 2000 by creative installing.  You must run setupdx.exe from
  47. Windows Explorer.

  49. 2. Unzip the contents of the archive into a temporary
  50. subdirectory.  Make note of the folder you use.  Do not use \Start
  51. Menu\Programs\Startup for your temporary path.

  53. 3. Use Windows Explorer or some other file manager to run
  54. 'setupdx.exe' from the path where you saved it in #2.  The
  55. installer will prompt you for the path to install to.
  56. C:\Tools\Decext is the suggested default but you can use any path
  57. you wish.

  59. 4. Delete the temporary files you unzipped from this zip.

  61. 5. Visit http://www.funduc.com/decfaq.htm for usage instructions.
  62. A shortcut to a local version of this same file is installed in
  63. Start Menu\Tools.
