# Subject : EFFO Bi-monthly News
Hi There,
At CERN OS-9/68K is used by a large number of people in various
environments - ranging from the small G64 system controlling a piece of
equipment to large multiprocessor multicrate assemblies in VMEbus and
FASTbus used in the major LEP experiments.
I saw in your recent usenet item that (among other things) you
have a bimonthly news exchange about OS-9 systems. To get onto your
distribution list I'm sending you a couple of formatted floppies. One is
empty but the other contains three items that might be of interest to other
OS-9/68K users :
1) F_SCHMITT (produced at Frank Schmitt in Heidelberg)
A collection of programs that Frank has sent to CERN. His email address
is schmitt@dhdmpi5h.bitnet and radio packet email df3um@db0gv
<< Unfortunately all code is compiled for use with DEC VT-100 terminals only.
This makes the nice utilities not accessible for many people working with other
hardware. It would be a good idea to use eg. termcap library or at least
to add a "dumb terminal" option without any terminal specific code. zzg >>
2) EXIT_HANDLER (produced at CERN)
Allows processes to specify code that will be executed when they exit
(forced or unforced).
<< Very usefull program using the user accounting hook of OSK (>= v2.3) zzg>>
3) SEDT_EDITOR
A public domain VAX/EDT like editor (which you may already have)
You mention no payment but would be grateful for contributions. For
the administration in places like CERN one always needs bills - so I expect
that the best way I can support your efforts will be to purchase relevant
software from you.
Hope that this software is of some use,
Douglas Kemp
P.S. I issue a newsletter on a monthly basis to people working in the
high-energy physics field and using OS-9. If you consider yourselves
to be in this area I would be happy to include you in the distribution list -
just send an email to kemp@cernvax.cern.ch (on UUCP). The newsletter covers
product announcements, error reports, documentation, public domain software
etc etc.
<< The latest two issues can be found in INFO/cern_90.2 and .3. WS >>
P.P.S. This letter is on the floppy as COVER_NOTE.
