  71.   There are a few copies of the transparencies presented at the OS-9 user

  74.  EFFO (European Forum For OS-9)
  75.   This Zurich based group has sent a couple of floppies. The software is
  76.   often for a specific hardware configuration (GEPARD). There is
  77.   a VMS style help package. The disc contents are largely in German so
  78.   if there is anyone willing to look deeper into this groups offerings come
  79.   and copy the floppies.

  81.  TOPS (The OS-9 Project)
  82.   They have just announced a new release of their software (15 floppies) which
  83.   we will be ordering. Any guinea-pigs willing to analyse and report on the
  84.   15 floppies please contact me or Judit.

  96.   Jorgen Petersen (CN/OC) has written a driver for the STK2925 9 track
  97.   tape (based on the SCSI Port-Pack) and will be using this as a base
  98.   for a driver for the STK4280, IBM3480 compatible, cartridge tape
  99.   drive (the SUMMIT). He has a note available. Contact jorgen@cernvax

  101.  EXABYTE
  102.   Michael Levine has installed an exabyte tape and used the driver from
  103.   the SCSI Port-Pack. He gets transfer rates of 130Kb/sec - theoretically
  104.   this could be higher (246Kb/sec). If anyone has got nearer the limit
  105.   he would be pleased to hear from them (levinem@vxcern.decnet).

  107.  ALEPH BUFFER MANAGER IN MEMORY-PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT
  108.   Michael Levine has made a small number of changes to this package to allow
  109.   it to be used in conjunction with SSM. Contact levinem@vxcern.decnet.

  111.  ELTEC IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE SOFTWARE
  112.   Ed Ciapala has purchased one of these modules and received a couple of
  113.   floppies of associated application software. Eltec have kindly made this
  114.   software available to other CERN groups.

  116.  NETWORK VIRTUAL DISCS (a la Tim Charity) ON PC
  117.   System Automation and Controls Srl have produced an enhanced version of
  118.   Tim Charity's Network Virtual Discs using an IBM PC as the server.
  119.   There is also an OS-9 shell running under MS-DOS which allows you to
  120.   execute familiar OS-9 commands for directory/file manipulation. They have
  121.   left a demonstration floppy. Contact antoniop@cernvax.
  122.   They are also planning to upgrade the package to bypass MS-DOS (allowing
  123.   the PC to be used for something else), cacheing and the transfer of multiple
  124.   blocks in a single Ethernet packet.

  126.  CERN 3.5 INCH FLOPPIES FROM STORES
  127.   These are now default high density - which will not work on most OS-9
  128.   systems. To use them cover the small hole with something opaque.

  130.  ACCESS TO VAX VMS FILES FROM ULTRIX VAX (PRIAM)
  131.   VMS files can be accessed from Priam using the commands dls, dcp, dcat
  132.   e.g. DCP VXCRNA::'DISK$CG:[PRIAMOS9]ERRORS.TXT' X.TXT].

  134.  HELP POSTSCRIPT ON APPLE TO VMS
  135.   Alessandro Miotto has put the Network Virtual Disc documentation produced
  136.   on the Apple (as Postscript) onto the central VMS cluster. It does not
  137.   appear to be possible to print the Apple output correctly from VMS.
  138.   If anyone has come across this problem before and solved it I would like
  139.   to have the recipe (kemp@cernvax).

  141.  HELP REQUEST FOR ETHERNET ADDRESSES
  142.   The Communications Group within CN division (ex DD division) need to have
  143.   a list of the ethernet address used by each node at CERN (people who asked
  144.   for and got an IP number and who provided this information already do not
  145.   have to repeat it). They would like to know the ethernet address(es),
  146.   type of equipment, where it is and who owns it (with telephone).

  156.   I have recently received a QIC tape (for the MVME147) of this latest
  157.   upgrade to the C compiler and will be testing it soon.

  159.  UNIBRIDGE
  160.   Version 1.1 has been installed on the ULTRIX VAX (PRIAM).
  161.   To access it change your .cshrc file to include :
  162.     /usr/local/os9/bin_2.3 in PATH
  163.     CDEF /usr/local/os9/defs_2.3
  164.     CLIB /usr/local/os9/lib_2.3
  165.   When this version has proved it's worth it will become the default.

  167.  INTERNET SUPPORT PACKAGE (ISP)
  168.   Users at CERN should make sure that they are using the latest release (1.2)
  169.   as earlier releases tended to use the broadcast facility rather too freely.

  175.  1) F. Schmitt has sent in an update to his 'sysmon' program
  176.         see VXCERN::DISK$CG:[PRIAMOS9.PUBLIC.OTHERS.F_SCHMITT]

  178.  2) A. Pastore (antoniop@cernvax) has provided versions of TAR
  179.     (called YTAR and UXTAR). YTAR is a restricted implementation of the UNIX
  180.     'tar' program for OS-9. Its main purpose is to provide an easy-to-use
  181.     way to move files and directory trees between OS-9 and UNIX. It is
  182.     available both for OS-9 and UNIX. Executable files, documentation and
  183.     sources can be found in:
  184.                 /usr/local/os9/Tools/Tar
  185.     'ytar' is the OS-9 executable while 'uxtar' is the UNIX executable.

  192. Description : We have come across a bug in r68020 for memory indirect
  193.               addressing :
  194.                   move.l  ([d,an]),([d,an])
  195.               The r68020 assembler complains about an "illegal external
  196.               reference" in the second operand.
  197.               The problem only occurs when the outer displacement is omitted,
  198.               as in the example. Also, it only occurs if the first operand is
  199.               also memory indirect - hence, it can only happen in move
  200.               instructions.
