  1. Rz and sz are Unix programs designed to support dial-in XMODEM,
  2. YMODEM, and ZMODEM transfers via the controlling TTY port.

  4. The contents of this archive can be uploaded to a remote Unix or
  5. Xenix system by ZCOMM or Professional-YAM using the supplied
  6. zupl.t script.  Connect to your Unix/Xenix system, select an
  7. empty directory, and then give the YAM/ZCOMM command: "source
  8. zupl.t".  This will upload minirb.c, compile it, and then use
  9. minirb to bootstrap upload the rz/sz files.

  11. Once these files are on your Unix system, you can type "make".
  12. The Makefile will list the various systems it knows how to
  13. compile the programs for, and the command to do so (e.g.,
  14. "make bsd").

  16. The Makefile is self explanatory; just say "make".
  17.  
  18. Unregistered users can use our support hotline: 900-737-7836 at
  19. $4.69 per minute.  Callers must be 18+ years of age.  Registered
  20. users can obtain free support for problems not involving
  21. terminal servers or third party ZMODEM software can call the
  22. regular Omen Technology phone number.

  24. Rz and sz work best with comm programs that properly support
  25. ZMODEM command and file AutoDownload (Pro-YAM and ZCOMM).

  27. The "GSZ" shareware program allows ZMODEM file transfers with
  28. DOS comm programs.  GSZ provides a "mini term function" that
  29. supports ZMODEM AutoDownload.  GSZ (part of GSZ.ZIP) and ZCOMM
  30. (ZCOMMEXE.ZIP, ZCOMMDOC.ZIP, ZCOMMHLP.ZIP) are available on
  31. TeleGodzilla and other fine bulletin boards.

  33. Rz ans Sz are Copyrighted shareware programs.  Commercial Use of
  34. these programs is subject to licensing conditions detailed in
  35. the rz.c source code.  "Commercial Use" includes use of this
  36. program to transfer files to/from any commercial or shareware
  37. program not published by Omen Technology INC.  Please print the
  38. "mailer.rz" file, fill out the form and return same with your
  39. registration.

  41. Previous versions of rz and sz (April 1988) are Public Domain,
  42. but lack recent enhancements and bug fixes.

  44. The Man pages are formatted for those without Unix nroff.  For
  45. best results, use less(1) (available on comp.sources.misc) as
  46. your manual page reader.  Sources for the man pages are provided
  47. with copies of Unix Professional-YAM.

  49. Apr 23 1994: Added -DOLD compiler flag for antique SYSV
  50. compilers without a standard /usr/include/stdlib.h header file.
  51. This causes rbsb.c to define char *getenv() etc. instead of
  52. getting these definitons from stdlib.h.  You may have to fiddle
  53. with the declarations in rbsb.c #ifdef OLD to get a clean compile.

  55. Registration and support has been clarified and simplified
  56. (see mailer.rz).

  58. Feb 18 94: A bug in sz that caused constipation at the end of a
  59. file under certain options was corrected.

  61. Jan 27 1994: Minor bugfixes and improvements, documentation
  62. improved.

  64. May 16 1993: More bugfixes, POSIX support.  Tested on SCO Unix,
  65. BSDI 1.0, and SunOS 4.1.2.  Code simplified to avoid certain
  66. compiler brain damage.  (Some complaints about redefinitons
  67. with some POSIX compiles.) (Void and Unsigned Long are required.)

  69. Jan 2 1992: Documentation on the sz -T command has been
  70. improved.  Please use this command and Professional-YAM to
  71. diagnose file transfer problems before calling for support.

  73. Oct 30 1991: Changed shar programs to aid net.digestion.
  74. Rs and sz now use the same version number.

  76. Oct 4 1991:  Fixed bug in rz crash recovery.

  78. Sep 1991: Major hacking to work around SVR4 bug.  Append and
  79. crash recovery of shrinking files corrected.  Sz now supports
  80. rename.  Sz -c changed to zcommand, rx -c file changed to rc.

  82. Feb 1991: various corrections and simplifications.  Sz now
  83. stores critical error messages for post mortem display.

  85. VMS systems are now supported with native VMS versions in
  86. RZSZ.TLB.  The rz and sz in RZSZ.TLB support wild cards and
  87. VMS record types.

  89. May 1989: Corrections for undefined variable and multiply
  90. defined rdchk() on some systems.

  92. New for 1989: ZMODEM compression and other compatible
  93. extensions have been added to the rz and sz programs.
  94. Please read the comments in the rz.c and sz.c source code

  98. In order for us to handle problem reports, we must have the
  99. exact error messages displayed by Professional-YAM.  If
  100. transfers do not work at all, we must have complete results of
  101. the sz -T test procedure!  If you are not using an Omen
  102. Technology product to talk to rz/sz and have not registered
  103. rz/sz, contact the author of the communications program you have
  104. purchased for support.  Some heavily marketed programs do not
  105. properly support the ZMODEM protocol.
