Here's what Gary Lambert had to say about Eyes of Chaos/Veil of Order for
Silberman's book:
Eyes of Chaos/Veil of Order is a radio program co-created and hosted by
Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, along with Gary Lambert (who also edits the
Grateful Dead Almanac). The program has aired monthly on listener-supported
KPFA-FM in Berkeley, California, since June of 1987. Eyes of Chaos is a
logical adjunct to Lesh's long-time advocacy of unusual, adventurous,
"difficult" 20th Century music. Lesh has been largely responsible for the
Rex Foundation's frequent grants to composers and improvisers of such music.
In 1992 the British Broadcasting Corporation produced a film (which has
since aired on American public tv) called "The Grateful and the Dead" which
documented Phil's work in this area, and included footage of Lesh and
Lambert in the studio producing Eyes of Chaos. As of this writing, a
national edition of Eyes of Chaos is in the works.
