  1. Windows 95 dual-boot
  2.  
  3. This document is intended for use with Qualitas MAX 8 and Windows 95.
  4.  
  5.  
  6. Use these instructions if you have already configured a Windows 95
  7. dual-boot and you wish to install Qualitas MAX to both Windows 95 and
  8. your previous Windows configuration.  If you want to use Qualitas MAX
  9. only with your Windows 95 configuration, follow the directions in the
  10. Quick Start and installation Guide.  No additional instructions are
  11. necessary.

  13. See your Windows 95 documentation for information on how to set up
  14. dual-boot capabilities for Windows 95 and your previous version of
  15. Windows.  After enabling dual-boot, use these directions to install
  16. Qualitas MAX and run Maximize on both boot configurations.

  18. If you have not yet installed Qualitas MAX into your Windows 95
  19. configuration, do so by following the directions in the Quick Start
  20. and Installation Guide.  When Maximize completes, restart your system
  21. and follow these steps to install Qualitas MAX into your "Previous
  22. version of DOS".
  23.  
  24. Boot your system and press the F8 key as soon as you see "Starting
  25. Windows 95" . If you have successfully installed a dual-boot setup,
  26. "Previous version of DOS" shows up as one of the menu choices.  Choose
  27. this option to boot with your previous version of DOS (valid only for
  28. DOS versions 5.x or 6.X) and Windows.  Be sure you have added any
  29. drivers and TSRs that you wish to use in this boot configuration to
  30. their appropriate start-up file.

  32. 1. In the QMAX directory, make backup copies of the 386MAX.PRO file
  33. and the ExtraDOS.PRO file.
  34.  
  35.   Copy 386MAX.PRO 386MAX.WIN
  36.   Copy ExtraDOS.PRO ExtraDOS.WIN.
  37.  
  38. These are the only startup files, other than CONFIG.SYS and
  39. AUTOEXEC.BAT, that Maximize modifies.  You will restore these files at
  40. the end of this process.

  42. 2. From within your previous version of Windows (version 3.1x), run
  43. Qualitas MAX SETUP.  If you do not intend to use your previous version
  44. of Windows, run SETUP/R from your Qualitas MAX directory in DOS.
  45.  
  46. 3. When SETUP asks if you want to run Maximize, reply YES.    You may
  47. choose either express or custom Maximize.
  48.  
  49. 4. As the machine reboots during each phase of Maximize, press the F8
  50. key and select the menu option for "Previous version of DOS" for each
  51. of the 3 reboots of Maximize so that Maximize can run to completion in
  52. the same boot configuration.  If you forget to press the F8 key when
  53. the machine reboots, allow Windows 95 load normally.  After it loads:
  54.  
  55.   -Click on Start, and choose Shutdown from the menu.
  56.   -Select the option to Restart the Computer.
  57.   -As the system reboots, remember to press the F8 key.  Maximize
  58.    continues where it left off (phase 1, 2 or 3).

  60.    DO NOT run PREMAXIM from the command prompt in Windows 95
  61.  
  62. 5. As soon as Maximize completes, go to the Qualitas MAX directory to
  63. rename the profiles for this configuration and restore the original
  64. profiles for Windows 95.  Do not boot into the Windows 95
  65. configuration prior to completing this step.

  67. First, copy the new profiles to names specific to this boot
  68. configuration.

  70.   Copy 386MAX.PRO 386MAX.DOS
  71.   Copy ExtraDOS.PRO ExtraDOS.DOS
  72.  
  73. Edit CONFIG.SYS (type edit C:\CONFIG.SYS from the command prompt) to
  74. place the appropriate names for this configuration on the appropriate
  75. Qualitas MAX lines:

  77. Find the line that points to 386MAX.PRO.  Change 386MAX.PRO to read
  78. 386MAX.DOS.
  79.  
  80.      DEVICE=C:\QMAX\386MAX.SYS PRO=C:\QMAX\386MAX.PRO    becomes
  81.      DEVICE=C:\QMAX\386MAX.SYS PRO=C:\QMAX\386MAX.DOS
  82.  
  83. Find the line that points to ExtraDOS.PRO.    Change ExtraDOS.PRO to
  84. read ExtraDOS.DOS
  85.  
  86.      DEVICE=C:\QMAX\EXTRADOS.MAX PRO=C:\QMAX\EXTRADOS.PRO  becomes
  87.      DEVICE=C:\QMAX\EXTRADOS.MAX PRO=C:\QMAX\EXTRADOS.DOS

  89. Now copy the profiles for the Windows 95 configuration back to their
  90. original names:

  92.   Copy 386MAX.WIN 386MAX.PRO
  93.   Copy ExtraDOS.WIN ExtraDOS.PRO
  94.  
  95. You now have Qualitas MAX installed in both sections of your dual-boot
  96. configuration.
