  1. SUPERSTOR and 386MAX
  2.  
  3. This information pertains to Version 2.0 and later of SuperStor.
  4.  
  5. Follow these directions only if you wish to have the SuperStor driver
  6. considered as a candidate for loading into high DOS memory.
  7. Otherwise, no special directions are necessary.  If you are using a
  8. version of SuperStor prior to 2.0, no special instructions are
  9. necessary.    The SuperStor driver does not load high in those earlier
  10. versions.  All instructions apply to both 386MAX and BlueMAX. 386MAX
  11. is used as an example in all cases.  Use these instructions for
  12. version 6.02 only of 386MAX and version 2.0 or later of SuperStor.    DO
  13. NOT USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR VERSION 7 OF 386MAX.

  15. When installing SuperStor, it is important to reserve space on your
  16. uncompressed drive for necessary files.  About 300 KB is necessary to
  17. copy the appropriate 386MAX files to the uncompressed drive.  Consider
  18. leaving enough space for other programs that may need to reside on the
  19. uncompressed drive, as well as space for a Windows SWAP file if you
  20. plan to use one.  It is usually a good idea to leave at least 1024 KB
  21. available for use on your uncompressed drive.

  24. IF SUPERSTOR IS INSTALLED ON YOUR SYSTEM
  25.  
  26. If 386MAX is already installed, go to CHECKING THE UNCOMPRESSED DRIVE.
  27. If not, follow the directions for installation below.
  28.  
  29. INSTALL 386MAX:
  30.  
  31. * Place your 386MAX diskette into a floppy drive.
  32. * Type A:INSTALL where A:  represents the drive letter of your floppy
  33.   drive
  34. * press  < ENTER >
  35. * Follow the on-screen prompts through INSTALL.  When INSTALL asks if
  36. you would like to run MAXIMIZE, reply NO.  Do not run MAXIMIZE at this
  37. time.  You will be returned to the DOS prompt.
  38.

  40. CHECK THE UNCOMPRESSED DRIVE
  41.  
  42. In order for 386MAX to load the SuperStor drivers into high DOS, you
  43. need a bootable floppy.  Insert a blank floppy into your A:  drive:
  44.  
  45. Type FORMAT A: /S at the DOS prompt and press  <  ENTER  >.
  46.  
  47. When the format is complete, copy ATTRIB.EXE from your DOS directory
  48. to the boot floppy.
  49.  
  50. Reboot your computer with the formatted disk in the A: drive.
  51. Enter through both the date and time prompt.  From the A: prompt:
  52.  
  53. * type ATTRIB -R -A -S -H C:\SSPARTSS.ADD
  54. * press < ENTER >
  55. * type REN C:\SSPARTSS.ADD SSPARTSS.SWP
  56. * press < ENTER >
  57. * type ATTRIB +R +A +S +H C:\SSPARTSS.SWP
  58. * press < ENTER >
  59.  
  60. Remove the boot disk from A:  and reboot the machine.  Your system
  61. should boot normally.
  62.  
  63. Change to your ADDSTOR directory.  By default, this is set as
  64. C:\ADDSTOR.
  65.  
  66. * type SSUTIL
  67. * press  < ENTER >
  68. * Choose SHRINK DISK from the main menu.  When the drive letter is
  69.   requested , choose the compressed drive (typically drive C:).
  70.  
  71. This text box appears:
  72.  
  73. !Input!  You may shrink the disk by up to nnnn Kb (Where nnnn
  74. represents a number).
  75.  
  76. * Type 1024 (this is a suggested size; you may choose more or less
  77. according to your own configuration needs)
  78. * press < ENTER >
  79.  
  80. When the program states that the shrink is complete, exit the program
  81. and reboot the machine.
  82.  
  83. IF YOU NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING SHRINKING AND EXPANDING
  84. DISKS, PLEASE CONSULT YOUR SUPERSTOR MANUAL.

  87. COPY 386MAX FILES TO THE UNCOMPRESSED DRIVE
  88.  
  89. After rebooting, go to your uncompressed drive.
  90.  
  91. * Type MD 386MAX;  to make a 386MAX subdirectory.
  92. * press < ENTER >
  93. * Type CD\386MAX;  to change to the 386MAX subdirectory.
  94. * Copy the following files to the newly created directory:
  95.  
  96. 386LOAD.COM
  97. 386LOAD.CFG
  98. 386MAX.SYS
  99. 386MAX.PRO
  100. 386MAX.VXD
  101. XLAT.COM  *   386max version 6.0 and later
  102.  
  103. If you are using Bluemax on a PS/2 be sure to copy the proper BCF file
  104. to the uncompressed drive as well.    The necessary BCF file can be
  105. determined by viewing your BlueMAX.PRO.  Look for the following line:
  106.  
  107. BCF=@XXXX.BCF * version 5.12 or earlier or
  108. AUTOBCF ; Compress bios using bcf @XXXX.BCF  * version 6.0 or later
  109.  
  110. Return to your compressed drive (normally C:)  and edit your
  111. CONFIG.SYS.  Be sure the first 3 lines, in order, read as follows:
  112.  
  113. DEVICE =C:\386MAX\386MAX.SYS PRO=\386MAX\386MAX.PRO
  114. DEVICE=\SSTORDRV.SYS /NOHIGH
  115. DEVICE=\DEVSWAP.COM
  116.  
  117. Copy your AUTOEXEC.BAT to your uncompressed drive.    Edit your
  118. AUTOEXEC.BAT on your compressed drive so that it contains the
  119. following line only:
  120.  
  121. d:\autoexec.bat   (where d: indicates your uncompressed drive)
  122.  
  123. At this point reboot your system to be sure it boots as expected.
  124. Continue only if you encounter no problems.

  127. RUN MAXIMIZE:
  128.  
  129. After rebooting, go to the 386MAX directory on the compressed drive
  130. and type MAXIMIZE.    When maximize asks for the letter of the boot
  131. drive, enter the letter of your uncompressed drive.  Follow the
  132. on-screen prompts until MAXIMIZE completes.
  133.  
  134. If you encounter any problems installing 386MAX, type Preinst at the
  135. command line in the 386MAX subdirectory to return your CONFIG.SYS and
  136. AUTOEXEC.BAT to the configuration prior to the installation of this
  137. version of 386MAX.    If you have problems during MAXIMIZE, Premaxim
  138. returns your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to the configuration prior to
  139. the last pass of Maximize.
