  1. DOSMAX for Windows and Norton DeskTop or PCTools for Windows
  2.  
  3. The information in this document is intended for use with 386MAX and
  4. BlueMAX version 7.xx.
  5.  
  6. This information pertains to both 386MAX and BlueMAX. 386MAX is used
  7. as an example in all cases.
  8.  
  9. The INSTALL program of 386MAX does not automatically support
  10. installation of DOSMAX for Windows when using a third-party shell
  11. instead of Program Manager (PROGMAN.EXE).  If you wish to use DOSMAX
  12. in this type of environment you must add the QUALITAS DOSMAX Group and
  13. its related programs manually.    This document describes how to install
  14. DOSMAX for Windows with Norton Desktop for Windows and PCTools for
  15. Windows as well as how to install DOSMAX manually with Program
  16. Manager.

  19. Norton Desktop for Windows
  20.  
  21. Use these directions to install DOSMAX for Windows with Norton Desktop
  22. for Windows.
  23.  
  24. 1. Create a STARTUP group on your desktop.    If you already have a
  25. STARTUP group, you may skip this step.    Otherwise, create a STARTUP
  26. group by choosing NEW from the FILE menu of the Desktop Manager.
  27. Click on the button to create a new Group.    In the box titled
  28. PROGRAM/DESCRIPTION/SCRIPT, type C:\WINDOWS\STARTUP.GRP.  You may
  29. leave the box for TITLE empty.    When you click OK, you should notice
  30. that a new STARTUP group has been added to your desktop.

  32. Any program icons added to this group will load automatically when you
  33. load Norton Desktop for Windows.

  35. 2. Add QPOPUP.EXE to your STARTUP Group.  Click on the STARTUP Group
  36. to open it.  If the STARTUP Group is not visible on your Desktop,
  37. choose WINDOW from the Desktop Manager Menus and select the STARTUP
  38. Group from the menu.  With the STARTUP Group active, choose NEW from
  39. the FILE Menu of the Desktop Manager.  Click on the button to create a
  40. new Item.  In the box titled PROGRAM/DESCRIPTION/SCRIPT, type
  41. C:\386MAX\QPOPUP.EXE.  You may leave the box for TITLE empty.  When
  42. you click OK, you should notice that QPOPUP appears in the STARTUP
  43. Group.

  45. 3. Add the Qualitas DOSMAX Group to your Desktop.  Choose NEW from the
  46. FILE menu of the Desktop Manager.  Click on the button to create a new
  47. Group.    In the box titled PROGRAM/DESCRIPTION/SCRIPT, type
  48. C:\386MAX\QUALITAS.GRP.  You may leave the box for TITLE empty.  When
  49. you click OK, you should notice that a new Qualitas DOSMAX group has
  50. been added to your desktop.  To use DOSMAX, double-click on this
  51. group.

  56. GUIDE UPDATE for 386MAX.

  59. PC Tools for Windows
  60.  
  61. Use these directions to install DOSMAX for Windows with PC Tools for
  62. Windows.
  63.  
  64. 1. Create a Qualitas DOSMAX folder.  To create a new folder, select
  65. NEW FOLDER from the FILE menu on the Main Desktop.    Enter QUALITAS
  66. DOSMAX in the TITLE box of the Folder Properties dialog box and click
  67. on OK.    A new empty folder called Qualitas DOSMAX will appear on your
  68. desktop.

  70. 2. Add the DOSMAX components to your Qualitas DOSMAX folder.  There
  71. are three items which you will add to the Qualitas DOSMAX folder.  To
  72. add each item, choose NEW from the FILE menu of the Qualitas DOSMAX
  73. folder.  Select FILE as the type of NEW ITEM to add and click on OK.
  74. In the File Item Properties dialog box, click on the box for Command
  75. Line.  To create the first item. enter C:\386MAX\QPIFEDIT.EXE.    When
  76. you click upon OK, you may be informed that "no icon information
  77. exists for this file".  This message is harmless and you may continue.
  78. A new item will appear in your Qualitas DOSMAX folder.    Repeat these
  79. steps two more times to add the other items which are included with
  80. DOSMAX.  In the File Item Properties dialog box, enter
  81. C:\386MAX\DOSMAXF.PIF in the Command Line box and click on OK to
  82. create the full screen DOSMAX session.    To create the Windowed DOSMAX
  83. session, enter C:\386MAX\DOSMAXW.PIF in the Command Line box and click
  84. on OK.

  91. Installing DOSMAX for Windows with Program Manager
  92.  
  93. DOSMAX for Windows installs automatically when you install 386MAX.
  94. If, for some reason, DOSMAX does not automatically install on your
  95. system, you may install it manually by following these directions.

  97. 1. Install QPOPUP.EXE into the Windows STARTUP group.  (If you have
  98. deleted your STARTUP group, recreate the group according to your
  99. Windows documentation.)  Choose WINDOW from Program Manager to locate
  100. your STARTUP group.  Maximize your STARTUP group.  Choose NEW from the
  101. FILE menu of Program Manager.  Click on the button to create a new
  102. Item.  In the dialog box Group Program Properties, type
  103. C:\386MAX\QPOPUP.EXE in the Command Line box.  The red Q icon for
  104. QPOPUP should appear in your STARTUP Group.

  106. 2. With Windows active, choose FILE from Program Manager.  When the
  107. dialog box with New Program Object appears, choose Program Group.  In
  108. the dialog box Group Program Properties, type C:\386MAX\QUALITAS.GRP
  109. in the Group File box.    You may leave the Description box blank.  When
  110. you click OK, you should notice that a new Qualitas DOSMAX group has
  111. been added to Program Manager.    To use DOSMAX, double-click on this
  112. group.
