ProDOS is the operating system used by the Apple II line of computers.  ProDOS partitions are not accessible by a Macintosh, but would allow the hard drive to be used by an Apple II.  Both ProDOS and Macintosh partitions may be on the same drive, allowing the hard drive to be used by both an Apple II and a Macintosh, though not by both at the same time.
