  3. in any other way derogatory to any individual or group of individuals.  It
  4. is intended as an ADVISORY STATEMENT on behalf of Dave Parsons (Orc) and
  5. myself (as representative of the Citadel:K2NE development group).

  15.  During the early part of 1989, a controversy arose regarding conflicting
  16. usage of certain field designators in the Citadel networking scheme.  It is
  17. not the purpose of this announcement to examine the cause of controversy
  18. or to take a position thereon.
  19.  
  20.  However, as a result of that controversy the following has been
  21. MUTUALLY ACCEPTED by the Citadel:K2NE development group, and by
  22. Dave Parsons ("Orc") on behalf of his development of STadel and its
  23. derivative software ports and variations:
  24.  
  25.  1) For the purposes of message processing and inter-system networking,
  26.     the header designators "W", "X", and "Y" are henceforth to be regarded
  27.     as "Citadel:K2NE reserved, for net mail routing purposes".
  28.  2) For similar reasons, the header designators  "I", "J", "Z" and "#"
  29.     are henceforth to be regarded as "STadel reserved."
  30.  3) The Citadel:K2NE software has been adjusted to recognize the
  31.     "W", "X" and "Y" headers only when performing functions specific
  32.     to Citadel:K2NE Net_Switch and FlashMail routing operations and
  33.     will NOT recognize or utilize these fields for ordinary room-sharing
  34.     functions.  Beginning with Citadel:K2NE V5.0, the Citadel:K2NE
  35.     development group agrees that all released runtime code shall
  36.     support this modification.

  38.  This information REPLACES and SUPERCEDES any prior announcement regarding
  39. message field-header usage via Citadel:K2NE, in particular the release
  40. announcement of July 25, 1988 in which the initial field designators
  41. were publicly defined and reserved.  Please append or integrate this
  42. announcement to/with any relevant "NetHack" files you may be maintaining.

  44.  We request that this information be included with any documentation being
  45. maintained by any Citadel developer whose software is network compatible
  46. with CitaNet (Citadel:K2NE), STadelNet (STadel, STadel-PC, STadel-Amiga),
  47. and C86Net (Citadel-86).  As these three networking systems are essentially
  48. compatible with each other, and as it is our goal to maintain such
  49. compatibility in the interest of all users of these respective system types,
  50. we encourage and request all Citadel developers to cooperate through
  51. recognition of the reserved nature of these field designators and their
  52. functions.
