SUPPLEMENT MANUAL MSCAN 2.0
===========================
PAGE IV
Agent for Hungary & neighbouring countries: KATE BT., 3529 Miskolc, Perczel M.
u. 45/A, Hungary, Tel: +36 46 36 56 43, Fax: +36 46 36 00 09.
PAGE 1
From now on MSCAN will always have the TX option installed. All parts in the
manual marked [TX] are now relevant, even if you used to have the RX version.
PAGE 2
A number of chipsets and the VESA/fast option have been added to the
configuration menu. Some video cards have a very slow VESA driver that slow
down MSCAN, or even prevent it from operating. This problem will be solved for
some video cards by choosing the VESA/fast option.
PAGE 3
If you have the Microscan version of MSCAN, you will be prompted for the IRQ
number of your com port. This enables MSCAN to operate on PCs with non-
standard IRQ numbers.
The 'Initial program mode' and 'Default path to picture directory' entries
are no longer available. If you quit the program, MSCAN now stores all
selected modes, the current program mode and the selected picture path.
PAGE 8
The calibrationfactor can now also be set in the new SSTV modes, in the same
way as in the FAX modes.
PAGE 10
A visual directory has been added to the path command. After clicking on the
'path' button, click again (or press <Enter>) to enable this option. You can
locate the desired directory by clicking on the presented buttons. Each time
you click a directory the new subdirectories (if any) will be shown. Clicking
on a '..' button will place you one directory back. If you have found the
desired directory press the 'ok' indicator to accept, or press your right
mousebutton to abort.
PAGE 11+12
Loading several images in alphabetical order is now much easier. First load a
picture like you are used to. Now click on the 'next' button and MSCAN will
load the next picture in the same screen or box you just selected. For easy
deleting you can alternate the next and delete commands. The next command is
available in both the diskload and autoload menus.
PAGE 12
The 'transbox' button has been added to the autoload and read menus. This
command will load a picture in a box, but will not place the black pixels.
This simple command offers many possibilities. You can now for example use
some external program to create a nice text or drawing, import it in MSCAN and
use the transbox command to place it on any picture. Or you can fill the black
characters of MSCAN with parts of a picture. The possibilities are endless and
can only be discovered by experimenting. Pixels that are not to be placed have
to be completely black (0 red, 0 green and 0 blue). Because JPEG can change
the intensity of colours you can not use this format to import pictures for
'transboxing' into MSCAN, instead use GIF. Some examples are supplied with the
registered version of MSCAN.
PAGE 13
MSCAN now supports both the old model (2 inputs) and new model (3 inputs) Iris
videodigitizer, and the original Video Blaster (full size card). For correct
operation of the Video Blaster, the following commands must have been executed
before starting MSCAN, you might want to place these commands in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
vblstdrv (load resident driver)
vbset source 0 (select the source you want to use)
vbset range 640 400 (set resolution)
vbset window 0 0 640 400 (set window)
Since the hardware-overlay option of the Video Blaster will not operate in
truecolour modes, you do not have to install the flatcable between the Video
Blaster and the graphic adapter. MSCAN will auto-detect which videodigitizer
is installed, if both the Iris and Video Blaster are present the Iris will be
supported. Due to the design of the Video Blaster, the digitizing process will
distort the timing of MSCAN. It is therefore recommended to digitize pictures
only when not transmitting or receiving images.
PAGE 14
By clicking on the 'display' button in the memwrite menu, the complete image
on your monitor will be saved to memory.
PAGE 15
The 'c' indicator now also selects the colour for the 'draw' function in the
toolkit menu.
PAGE 24
The 'esc' indicator has been replaced with 'ok', this command is used for the
new path option. Press this indicator twice (or press <alt-q>) to quit the
program.
PAGE 26
If loading a picture from disk causes the receiving (or transmitted) image to
shift to the left, and no cache program is installed, your harddisk/BIOS
combination is the cause of the problem. This cannot be helped.
Loading a picture from disk can cause little noise dots to appear in the
received image, this is a result from using the Microscan interface. Using the
Multiscan interface will avoid this problem, and will give additional
improvements like sharper and cleaner images.
