CANADA WEST VER. 1a for FS5.1
*****************************
It includes

SOUTHERN BRITISH COLUMBIA and
SOUTHERN ALBERTA

WHAT DO YOU HAVE:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You have one of the nicest areas in the World where you can see people
skiing on the Mountains and others swimming in the Ocean, Beautiful British
Columbia plus the neighbouring oil rich Province of Alberta, you have from
Vancouver Island to the Alberta/Saskatchewan border from N52:30 to 49:00
with an extension up to N54 in the Edmonton area and W128:30 to W110:30.
That's over 300,000 sq. km. of synthetic scenery. Included are some of the
major airports in Saskatchewan and Manitoba so together with my CAN-CEN1
scenery you can fly all the way from Montreal, Quebec to Vancouver Island
with airports to stop for refuelling and to stop for a cup of coffee.
FIRST OF ALL:
^^^^^^^^^^^^
These Sceneries are for the enjoyment of my fellow flsimmers and they are
freeware. No changes to them are allowed and may not be incorporated into
any other freeware or shareware packages or published on CD-ROM without my
written permission. Please feel free to upload them to other BBS's, FTP's
in your area or to CompuServe and make sure you enclose the whole package
as is. I repeat: DO NOT publish them on CD ROM without my permission.
MAP FUND
^^^^^^^^
Some maps were donated some had to be bought. I need you to help me with
the expenses of maps and other related long distance charges etc. Just
slip in $2 to $5 in an envelope to help these out of pocket expenses, they
can add up and can become too much for me to handle. Of course, do not
feel obliged to do so. Thanks to the few who have contributed already.
Please send any contributions for the map fund to the address below.
If anyone plans to build any of the neighbouring areas, please let me know
and I will offer my full cooperation.
John Trindle's ISS series are fully compatible as far as the neighbouring
U.S. States are concerned.
************************
IN BRIEF WHAT TO DO
************************
IMPORTANT: BEFORE you fly, please:
^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^
MOVE CANBGL?.BGL from your \SCENERY subdirectory of FS5.1 to a temp directory.
MOVE the default SEATTLE.BGL to a temporary directory or disable it.
I set up my FS5.1 with a directory for Canada only:
FS51
|- CANADA: Here you copy Docs and info re Canadian Sceneries
| |---SCENERY Here you copy the CAN-CEN1 and CAN-WST1 bgl files
| |---TEXTURE Here you copy the Seed*.r8 files that come with them.
COPY the SeedC?.R8 files into the \CANADA\TEXTURE subdirectory and
apparently you may also have to copy them into the \FS51\TEXTURE subdir.
I experienced some problems when they were not in both.
Please sort your \Scenery subdirectory in alphabetical order in the DOS
environment before you access FS5.0a. As discovered by Morton Biback, it
helps eliminate database errors.
WHAT'S INCLUDED AND HOW TO IN MORE DETAILS:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The compressed file (Please don't change the name):
<<<<< CANWST1A.ZIP Means CANADA WEST VER 1a >>>>>
In it you will find the following files: (The 1 at end is Ver. number)

* If you have the DISK VERSION of FS5.1, then it must be present.
SEEDC?. R8 - Copy to \Texture subdir BEFORE flying \TEXTURE
It's O.K. to overwrite previous bitmaps.

All airports are accessible via the ALT-W menu. You'll find two menu
headings: CAN-BC (British Columbia) and CAN-ALB (Alberta). Each one is
split in several alphabetical sections to make it easier to access
desired airports.
THESE SCENERIES CONTAIN:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AIRPORTS: 178
RUNWAYS: 266
AREA: 300,000 sq km
All the airports listed in the various VFR Aeronautical charts of the
coverage area are included.
CANBGL:
^^^^^^
Many conflicts and database errors occurred when I tried to use it together
with CANBGL so move CANBGL to a temporary directory before using these
sceneries.
BITMAPS:
^^^^^^^
On the advice of Enno Borgsteede, I have eliminated several custom bitmaps
to increase the frame rate and settled for default bitmaps. One of them,
SEEDC3.R8 is creation of Bill Roccia who made it especially for me. Thanks
Bill.
Three bitmaps were downloaded from FLIGHT 642 BBS documented as "source
unknown". Thanks to their creator: good job. I'm only using one of them
in this package. I renamed them to avoid conflict with the default ones.
I renamed them as follows:
Downloaded bitmap FARM .R8 was renamed SEEDA8.R8
This will eliminate the need of backing up the originals and all the
confusing issues that follow.
MISTAKES:
^^^^^^^^
All the mistakes in these sceneries are there on purpose. I wanted to
please everyone and some people are always looking for mistakes. But feel
free to let me know if and when you find them.
LIMITATIONS:
^^^^^^^^^^^
These sceneries are built with Blocks. The smallest block you can use is
approx. 3.5 km so some rivers may be overdone width-wise. Could not help
that. The coastlines are quite accurate and the runways and navs are
located precisely. Major lakes are pretty accurate also, smaller lakes
located roughly.
AREA COVERED:
^^^^^^^^^^^^
Scenery coverage area:
LAT N55:00 to N47:00 and LON W098:00 to W129:00. I went further North
to cover Edmonton and further east to cover Saskatoon and Regina, Sask,
and Brandon Manitoba.
DOCUMENTS USED:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
VFR Aeronatical Charts of VANCOUVER and CALGARY plus N.T.S. No. 83
of RED DEER - EDMONTON issued by the Canadian Department of Energy,
Mines and Resources.
Canadian Forces Flight information Publication (Terminal), INSTRUMENT
PROCEDURES of British Columbia and Northern Canada of February 95 and
of Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan of October 1994.
ENROUTE LOW ALTITUDE Canada and North Atlantic of 02 February 1995
CANADA FLIGHT SUPPLEMENT DND flight information Publication 08 December 94;
Various other Maps and Tourist brochures of specific areas.
I WANT TO SINCERELY THANK
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The following for providing some of the maps I used and which made it
possible to work more accurately:
AL PELLETIER of Courtenay, British Columbia author of Round Robbins
CHRIS SQUIRES of Comox British Columbia tester of Round Robbins.
BARBARA of the VIP PILOT CENTRE in St Hubert, Quebec for donating
some of the maps used for the benefit of the FS community.
VIP Pilot Centre can be reached at 1-800-361-1696.
SINCERE THANKS ALSO TO:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The following gentlemen for beta testing the sceneries for me:
ALLAN SAGE of Etobicoke, Ontario, the Chief sharp beta tester,
and the following gentlemen for being so patient and kind
in suggesting what to put where to get as close as possible
to real life:
AL PELLETIER, CHRIS SQUIRES, MICHAEL (Dr) McCANN and ALECS BAINE
all from beautiful British Columbia.
BILL ROCCIA for the bitmap he provided.
OLIVIER BRIOT for his FSC Compiler that generated these sceneries. His
compiler made it possible to have huge areas into one file minimizing
the number of .bgl files in the \Scenery subdirectory.
ENNO BORGSTEEDE for his BGLGEN Compiler used for the Navs files;
my dear Son MARTIN for helping in editing and positioning runways and
numbering the grids on my maps;
to MS and BAO for this wonderful program that is enjoyed by so many of
us around the world! Let's work together fellows!!!
TO ALL THOSE who will let me know about any deficiencies.
TO ALL THOSE who have encouraged me in the past. Your satisfaction is
my reward and thanks for taking the time to send your thank you notes.
My motto is: "LET'S COVER THE WHOLE FS5 WORLD". Here is another huge area
of the North American Continent covered.
To all of you, thank you et merci!
Enjoy and happy flying!
WHOLE NATIONS SERIES BGL'S
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The following is the list so far of the WHOLE NATIONS BGL's Series
that I have worked on. They are all available on various BBS in
Canada, U.S., Europe and the World and on FTP.IUP.EDU and FTP's
worldwide and on CompuServe.
FS5.0 █ CANARY1 .ZIP (The Canary Islands includes part of W Morocco)
FS5.0 █ CAN-CEN1.ZIP (Canada Central Ver 1 - Replaces ONSBGL? series)
FS5.1 █ CAN-WST1.ZIP (Canada West Ver 1 - Southern B.C. and Alberta)
FS5.0 █ ESPAÑA1 .ZIP (Spain includes N.W. Morocco and Gibraltar)
FS5.0 █ FRANCE3 .ZIP (France)
FS5.0 █ ITALIA1 .ZIP (Italy, Sicily, Corsica, Sardegna and Malta)
FS5.0 █ SWITZER3.ZIP (Switzerland - uploaded together with FRANCE3)
These sceneries are all synthetic sceneries. They may slow down
your frame rate a bit but I guess it's worthed to be able to see
all the rivers, cities and mountains of the area. Yes, let's fly
VFR!!!
With your help and encouragement, I can build more. Thanks.
Alfred.
