Using Scanners to import recipes
into
Recipe Box
Many of our uses have requested the ability to scan in recipes
out of existing cookbook, magazines or other printed material.
Hand scanners and flat bed scanners can "read" the text from the
paper and create a text file.
To import recipes:
1. Read the documentation for the CONVERT utility.
2. Scan the recipe(s) into an ASCII text file
3. Edit the text file for correctness
4. Arrange Recipe information
(title, description, serving size and categories)
5. Add the necessary conversion flags: <S> <I> <P>
6. Run the conversion utility.
You may scan as many recipes as you like into a single text file.
Whether the scanner is operated from a Windows application or a
DOS application it is very important to save the file as:
TEXT ONLY
The formatting attributes saved at the beginning and end of a
program may mess up the conversion. Word processors such as Word
Perfect and Microsoft Word provide the ability to save a file as
ASCII text or text only.
A safe way to test for embedded format characters is to use the
EDIT program supplied with DOS version 6 (or any standard ASCII
editor).
Refer to the documentation supplied with CONVERT.EXE for more
information on how to format the file before conversion.
Note: The CONVERT.EXE utility and documentation is available to
registered users and is included with the registered
version of Recipe Box.
